I'm having a bit of trouble with this quest (the one where you have to discover who stole the painting of the late Count of Chorrol) and I'd be grateful for any advice.

I've already looked at the walkthrough in the Wiki, but that doesn't help; when I try to open the lectern in Chanel's bedroom, nothing happens - the quest must've glitched in some way.

Does anyone know how to undo this glitch, please? I don't want to have to go back to a previous save, because I've had this one sitting in my journal for quite a while and I'd lose a lot of progress. I'm playing on PS3, by the way.

Yep, I found the mysterious painting and the footprints.

I haven't been able to open the lectern at all - it gives me the option to open it when I approach, but when I try nothing happens.

Nah, I don't want to lose all that progress for the sake of a minor quest - just wanted to clear it from my backlog. Maybe if I leave it to gather dust for a while it'll unglitch itself.

Cheers for replying, though.

I believe I know what has caused your glitch! Here's a wiki quote from the quest page-

"The quest is glitched if you pick up the painting tools before finding the concealed painting in the west tower. You can fix this by talking to Chanel once you have all of the evidence."

Sounds like your issue to me. I'm nto sure if this'll affect your decision to abandon the quest or not, but there you go :D

No, it is not.

The quest name is "Canvas the Castle". The word 'canvas' is as much a verb as it is a noun, and as a verb it has the connotation to 'investigate or search thoroughly'.

This happened to me the first time I did the quest, and I managed to complete it without having to do any console fiddles, so this must be the way out for you.

Tried talking to her - I found the painting first, but no luck. :(

There are a two ways you can get around this. (save first)

1.) Confront and accuse Chanel, then talk to the Countess, and accuse Chanel. If for some reason this does not work, since you did not get the last piece of evidence, the painting tools, then try this: (reload)

2.) Talk to the Countess, and accuse nobody. (it at least clears the Quest)

Finally sorted this one - when I went to speak to the Countess again, the quest re-programmed itself. It meant I had to interview all the supsects again, but after I did, things went smoothly.

Anyway, thanks for the advice, t'was much appreciated. :)
