Does anyone know a way how to kill people without getting a bounty? It's kinda annoying, everytime I kill someone without being seen by others, I get a bounty. Not much, only 40 gold, but it sucks. Especially if I want to steal some items in the process. The moment I leave the victims house, a guard wants to arrest me and, therefore, takes all the stolen items from me.

I have always been annoyed by the fact that you can't get away with anything in oblivion. You can be caught even if no one is within a mile of you!

The only way that i know is if you kill the victim in one hit. Then they can't scream I guess. Then you will not get caught.

I came across a mod called "no psychic guards"(i think) on planet elder scrolls, you may want to check that out. Especially for you "murderer" types.

There's actually a very easy solution for this: become guild master of the Thieves guild (get the Grey Cowl) and make at least 4 or 5 items (clothing or jewelry) chameleon untill you have 100% or more chameleon. If you did all that you can do whatever you want as long as you have the Grey Cowl on (if you speak with guards they try to arrest you, but can't), and if you're not wearing it and have a descent sneak skill you can still do whatever you want!

(But this is REALLY cheating like a bad ass!)

I know. I just cant seem to understand why Bethesda made this possible. Practicly you become God, and whats the challenge in that.

By the way, Shib, wellcome to the UESP.

I will still get the bounty with 100% chameleon, although this makes absolutely no sense, since no one could ever know that I did it.

That "no psychic guard" mod didn't help that much, either.

What I figured out is, when I kill someone in public, seen or not, I'll get a bounty of 1000 gold. If I kill someone inside a house, the bounty will be 40 gold.

I don't understand that bounty system.

Exactly right. I was sneaked and I picked off all of the skooma den addicts with one-shot kills and no bounty. It was kind of funny, because there were two of them sleeping upstairs and when I killed one of them in one shot, the other one woke up and said to me something like "How could you do such a horrible thing?" but I still didn't get a fine or anything.

None whatsoever! Playing like that is fun for a short while, but in the end it gets really annoying and there isn;t much fun left in the game. (Unless you like to avoid every challenge there is)

By the way, codex; thanks!

Doesn't work for me. I still get a bounty when I kill them in one hit.

Yeah, but what he meant was that you most likely kill them in one hit.

I got that. But I still get a bounty then. It doesn't matter whether I kill them in one hit or in ten hits.

Use enrage on them and let the guards kill him or her, then loot the body.

You mean a frenzy spell? That works only on lower levels (below level 28, I think).

Are you sneaked? Are they facing you, or is their back to you? Is anyone else around? That's strange that you would still get a bounty...

I'm sneaking, they are asleep. No one else is around or can see me at least. Even when I can't kill them in one hit, but they don't detect me until they're dead, I get a bounty. The bounty is only 40 gold then - I think for attacking them.

I get a 1000 gold bounty if someone else is around, whether they see me or not.

One example would be the Dark Brotherhood quest where I have to kill Adamus Phillida. I use that special arrow, shoot him while he's swimming, no one saw me, I get a bounty of 40 gold.

It's very rare that I can kill someone without getting a bounty. Usually, that's only the case with my Dark Brotherhood contracts, as long as they are alone.
