i played dunmer all the time in oblivion, but now their only differences to human races is skin color and ears, so they look to me as if they are humans with a severe skin issue, so i cant handle playing them any more. i want ESV to have independent bodies.

For me I would say Imperial though I also like dark elf for a jack of all trades charchter. I have never played has khjhiit or argonian or breton.I once made a nord warrior,my charchter in arena is a redguard,my charchter in daggerfall is a high elf.I once played a female bosmer Thief, assassain type charcter and that was fun.

My main character at the moment is from a mod XD
It's a mystic elf.
However i'm incredibly fond of Dark Elves and Wood Elves.

My current dude is an Orc. He's currently just a run-through-the-game character, but I have plans to roleplay with him when I'm finished with MQ and such.

But I have other ideas for characters, like an Imperial stealth character, Breton magic character, amongst other ideas.

I was using a Bosmer before I started this new game, screwed up when I got to lvl 6. Now I use a Breton, I figure the initial magicka boost will allow me to lvl up my more useful attributes first while still giving me enough magicka for the more taxing spells. I'm at lvl 18 and, for the most part, it's been a breeze. The only real trouble I've been having is getting through the Oblivion gates. I'm sure I'll be fine once I find a fire shield sigil stone. Outside this character, though, I've played a Bosmer and Khajiit for a short time (both useless) and completed the main quest as an Argonian. Never used any other races, never will (especially those smelly Nords and Orcs. :))

I noticed that no race in the game is really 'unpreferred'. Bethesda did a good job in making sure there's a race every player will be interested in.

Though the number of people who like Orcs is kind of meager...

i think its in the nose. as awesome as characters might be statisticly, there is almost ALWAYS a line that will NOT be crossed in terms of cosmetics.

I remember making an Orc with a fairly good nose, took me a while, but it was worth it. :)

....Until I found out he was useless :(

The problem is: every race in Oblivion can make a powerful character. In fact, a High Elf Warrior is stronger than an Orc Warrior thanks to his magical abilities.

It would've been fun if you had to pick a class (no custom classes) and they depend on your race:

Altmer
Mage
Battlemage*

Argonian
Thief
Assassin*

Bosmer
Thief
Archer*

Breton
Mage
Sorcerer*

Dunmer
Thief
Nightblade*

Imperial
Warrior
Crusader*

Khajiit
Thief
Acrobat*

Nord
Warrior
Monk*

Orc
Warrior
Barbarian*

Redguard
Warrior
Knight*

*Unique classes

i think that would be a little too confining...i always thought that the racial bonuses should be a little more pronounced, both good and bad.

Yeah but sometimes I wish Oblivion would be more like D&D, with standard classes.
In Neverwinter Nights 2, when you are a mage, there's absolutely no way you can survive as a warrior. In fact, you cannot even wield a sword.

that would be good, but this is a little offtopic now :?
i have borrowed out oblivion now, and now im having withdrawals. made up about 10 classes since i gave it up (yesterday). i want to try a priest, or maybe a shaman. anyone have any good ideas for class setup? the priest will have blunt, they both will have large on touch spells

I voted Imperials as they are most like humans! I would vote Wood Elves but i hate the fact that they are so short!

This is steryotyping that would limit roleplay i think based on what youre focus is you cannot level up minor skills in other focuses and half major skills must be of youre focus

I have a nice little Redguard at the moment, quite happy to chop stuff up with longswords. A suprisingly good alchemist too, more to with my playing style really.

I mostly use custom races such as the Chimer race mod I downloaded, but when I play with a stock race 9/10 times I play as a Dunmer. My love of Morrowind has carried over I guess :D

I used to play more sneaky type races, but it seems like now I play Nord. Aside from being a thief being a lot easier when you have the muscle to actually carry things, I've found that I like a strong woman.

Imperial. Mostly female, sometimes male.

I like the added Personality/Speechcraft boost cause I love to chit-chat with everyone.
Oddly enough, because I always sneak around during quests my Sneak skill is one of the ones that maxes-out first, I always tend to have a very stealthy Imperial character.

I pick Redguard most of the time. I prefer playing as a warrior type and find Redguards best at this.

Khajiit for me. Eye of Fear on a shopkeeper for easy robbing, bwahahahaha. God, scrounging up stuff to sell to fences is so easy I almost feel dirty with a Khajiit.

My main character is a breton. Like everyone else said they are the most overpowered race and I love their magic resistance. I've had 4 breton characters that I beat the game with and my highest lvl was 54. If I had to go by looks alone I would make a argonian cuz they look like raptor humanoids and raptors are just plain tight.

High Elves are actually stronger than Bretons.
A level 50 High Elf would definitely beat a level 50 Breton, even though it'll take some time.

50pts extra Magicka are more valuable than 50% resistance to Magic.

High Elf + Atronach is a deadly combination and it's the strongest character possible. Sure, the Breton can achieve 100% resistance to magic by wearing a Mundane Ring, but the High Elf can just as easily reach 100% Spell Absorption, which is even more useful.

If we forget about 100% resistances to Poison, Normal Weapons and Magic, which can be achieved by both races, High Elves have 50pts more Magicka and can thus create stronger spells.

I always play as a Dark Elf, because of their 75% fire resistance.
And I don't know why but always when I try to make another Character as a Elf, she looks ugly.
And from the three elf types I like the dunmer most. :)
