Ding-Ding-Ding! We have a winner! (How'd you know?)

IDK why, but the story of the two mages having their souls combined just got stuck in my head when I first read about it, and upon reading your riddle, that just seemed like the most likely answer. Anyway, here's my first go at Quiz Master!


I am dark, dank, and gruesome
I paralyze people with fear, and weaken them

I have travelled from East to West
Finding new lands on my master's quest

They would now hate me
As I am now allied with their enemy

My master gives me away to travelling strangers
Including the unsung five, who helped him when his children were in danger

There hasn't been a guess, so if somebody wants a hint, just ask. I would give one now, but I think the riddle is a bit easy.

I am dark, dank, and gruesome - The Hammer itself looks pretty evil and horrifying
I paralyze people with fear, and weaken them - Its enchantments in Oblivion

I have travelled from East to West - Morrowind to Hammerfell
Finding new lands on my master's quest - As the Dwarves travelled to Hammerfell, the built their many Strongholds on the way

They would now hate me
As I am now allied with their enemy - The Dwarves hated the Daedric Princes, and the Hammer is now Malacath's

My master gives me away to travelling strangers
Including the unsung five, who helped him when his children were in danger - The "unsung five" refer to the heroes of Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim, and their quests to get the Hammer all somehow involved helping Orcs, Ogres, or whatever else Malacath considered to be his children.

That which I seek is the plant of the world,
But my knowledge of it is already unfurled.

and be rewarded in gold and more!

I want to say Waterwalking, but water can be found pretty much anywhere in Cyrodiil.

Nope, it's not waterwalking. You're right with 'here' being Cyrodiil though.

Close, but Tar-Meena isn't really an amateur.

I was thinking about how she was part of the quest "Secrets of the Ayleids" and started to realize that it matched up with the "Amateur dabbler who knows of ancient powers" part. I noticed the hint about it being an author right after and that confirmed it for me.

I'm terrible at coming up with riddles, so I'll let someone else have a go.

I don't know if the same person can answer two questions in a row, so I'm sorry if that's the case.

I think the answer is Mathieu Bellamont

"My family dabble in the dark art" That could mean the Dark Brotherhood because of the "dark art" part. They call themselves brother and sisters and therefore are "family".

"But in a similar mood, due to losing something dear to my heart" His mom was murdered and that could be what you mean by "dear to my heart"

"Which leads me to a messy end, after an unfair fight" He gets killed by you and Arquen down in the Night Mother's crypt. Two on one is unfair if you ask me

"While I'm here, not high as a kite" This is the only part that I couldn't really figure out.

I have another person in mind too, but it doesn't fit as much as he does.

I'm sorry, that's not it.

My other guess is Lucien Lachance

"Which leads me to a messy end, after an unfair fight" He gets killed in a 3 on 1 fight and then is skinned pretty much.

"While I'm here, not high as a kite" It could be a reference to the mountains near Bruma since he gets killed near there.

"But in a similar mood, due to losing something dear to my heart" This is the only piece for him that I can't think of a good reason for.
