Enchantment Cap on Gear

Fri Oct 30, 2020 7:31 am

Good morning,

Given how quickly I got a response to my previous query I hope you don't mind me posting another - I've again checked to see whether this has already been discussed and unless I've missed it can't find anything...

I'm learning about enchantment in the game and have, on a number of occasions, crafted a glyph that can enchant - for example - up to 500+ magicka on armour...

So I right click on a piece of armour and make sure it's of the appropriate level corresponding to the glyph. The glyph appears there and I click on it and enchant that piece of gear only to find out that it's only added 200 odd Magicka and there's a notice appearing on the piece of gear stating MAXIMUM MAGICKA ENCHANTMENT (or words to that effect).

I can't find anywhere a guide on how you can increase enchantment caps on gear... do you do that simply by getting higher level gear?? It confuses me, because the level and the glyph can match perfectly, but the glyph offers so much more than it is possible to enchant that piece of item with. Do you have to *improve* it i.e. to fine/epic/legendary? Or is it the case that certain armour types have lower caps than others i.e. light armour will have higher magicka caps for enchantment vs heavy which has higher stamina caps?

Given the above flurry of questions - anyone able to direct me to a guide which can comprehensively teach me how *enchanting items* works (not 'enchantment' in general since there are LOADS of guides out there but none I've found tell you exactly how the actual process of enchanting an item works)...

Thanks all!

SteveyP.
