Pokemon: Dusk and Dawn

Things you should know:
Spoiler:
- This is a relatively open-world RP. The primary goal from the beginning should be to become Pokemon Champion, but you are CERTAINLY not limited to that. There are legendary Pokemon about, and a war that is about to wage, so you have plenty to do other than beat Gym Leaders and such. I recommend you stay with one or more other people just so your character isn't stuck with NPC interaction the whole RP. Just have fun :D

- Pokemon CAN die. But it's very unlikely since there are laws against it, and revives exist. However, revives only work on the dead Pokemon that have died within the hour. Wild Pokemon are territorial. They most likely will just attack your Pokemon until it, or your Pokemon, are wore out. If the former happens, then it'll flee or faint. If the latter, the trainer usually flees with his/Pokemon.

- The Players start in a school, graduating from their class. The classes are not all kids, in fact there are quite a few adults. In other words, your player can be any age between 10-60. The school is in Viridian City, which has grown in size since the events of Red/Blue/Yellow.

- It's mostly going to be based in Kanto. However, due to current events there have been other Pokemon migrating to Kanto.

- It's set 222 years after the events of Red/Blue/Yellow

- You will not be notified when your Pokemon levels up, so that way new moves and evolutions are more of a surprise.

- No cheese. There may be romances however (kissing is allowed).

Background

Kanto - Kanto is contested by two powers; the Government and Team Rocket.

The Government rules all of Kanto, except for Seafoam Island and Cinnabar Island. They enforce laws regarding the protection of people, and especially Pokemon. They formed several years after the events of Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow, by Red. They run/regulate the Pokecenters, Pokemarts, Gyms, and Police. Police Generals lead the towns that they are stationed in, and are delegated by the Government. Their laws follow:

Spoiler:
- Not selling Pokemon, unless given a permit by the Government.
- Killing other trainers’ Pokemon is forbidden.
- Killing a wild Pokemon is frowned upon, but is not legal.
- You may not battle with Pokemon unless you have your 'Trainers License' on hand.
- In order to attain a Trainers License, you must pass a one year course in Trainer School.
- Failure to follow any of these rules results in an appropriate amount of time served in Prison.

Team Rocket is largely changed from what it used to be. Once it got disbanded (LeafGreen/FireRed), it got reformed in a little over 20 years afterwards by a man named Samuel Crescent. He introduced new motifs, in response to the forming of the Government and their laws and regulations. Team Rocket in their own way is a government, extending their reaches across all of the Sevii Islands, Seafoam Island, and Cinnabar Island. While Team Rocket has drastically changed, there still are some conservative Rocket members around their territory that treat their Pokemon as servants rather than Companions. Their laws follow:

Spoiler:
- You may kill a trainers Pokemon, but it's very highly frowned upon.
- Killing Wild Pokemon is legal, but still somewhat frowned upon.
- No permits or licenses needed for battling or selling Pokemon.
- Failure to follow these rules will result in an appropriate amount of time in prison.

Johto

Johto isn't at all what it used to be. After all the Pokemon were overcaptured or overkilled, the rest fled to Kanto. The humans that remained migrated to Kanto, not used to the Pokemon-less lifestyle. Some remain, along with some Pokemon. But overall, it's dropped to about 5% of the original population. The migration started a few years after the events of Gold/Silver, and ended about thirty years before the events of this RP. There is some Kanto Government influence in Johto, but not much.

Hoenn

With a decent amount of Ranger support, Hoenn has done very well. Some of its cities grew, and it has become the Ranger hotspot of the Pokemon world. The Rangers sent some of its Pokemon to Johto and Kanto to promote biodiversity. No Government influence, except for some positive connections between the Government and the Rangers.

Sinnoh

Largely the same as it was in the games. It has some Ranger bases scattered around its lands, but not nearly as many as in Hoenn.

The map:
Spoiler:
Image

That base in the middle of the sea is the regional Prison. Most towns have a Police station with its own small prison, but the regional Prison is where Team Rocket go, as well as the criminals with larger presences.

Timeline:
Hidden:
3000 – Red defeats the Elite Four and Giovanni. The beginnings of the Government are created, being started by Red in Saffron City.
3002 – The Government has its reaches in Saffron, Cerulean, Lavender, and Celadon.
3005 – The Government controls all of Kanto, having some influence on the Sevii Islands. New laws are created. The Government begins to have associations with the Hoenn Rangers.
3008 – Johto begins to migrate, starting with its Pokemon. Kanto begins to become more populated with Johto-native Pokemon.
3016 – Nearly half of the Johto region Pokemon has migrated to Kanto.
3018 – Team Rocket reforms under a man named Samuel Crescent, in a response to the Governments growing laws and limitations. At this point, they took over Chrono Island, building their first base there.
3029 - Team Rocket has control over Chrono, Quest, and Fortune Islands. The Government has some response to it, putting aims to defeating Samuel Crescent in an effort to disband Team Rocket.
3040 – Team Rocket slowly grew, gaining control over Floe Island. Samuel Crescent Jr. is born.
3046 – The Government kept tight control over the other three islands, sending officials to defend the islands from Team Rocket.
3047 – Red grows very sick, granting his close friend Victor presidency over the Government. Near the end of the year, Red dies.
3050 - Team Rocket takes control over half of Kin Island. Seafoam Island becomes a small town, mostly residing in and around the cave.
3055 – Kin Island is retaken by the Government.
3063 – Johto citizens begin to migrate to Kanto, hardly standing the Pokemon-less lifestyle in Johto. Johto is nearly depleted with Pokemon.
3070 – Kin and Boon Island are taken by Team Rocket in one fell swoop. Samuel Crescent Jr. takes over.
3072 – Samuel Crescent III is born. Victor retires, giving his Presidency to his daughter, Florence.
3076 – The first three Gyms are opened in the Sevii Islands, property of the Team Rocket Pokemon League.
3090 – Knot Island is taken by Team Rocket. The Hoenn Rangers send some of their species, by the Governments request, to promote biodiversity in Kanto. In return, the Government sends some Johto and Kanto Pokemon to Hoenn. Samuel Crescent III becomes the new Team Rocket President.
3099 – Sinnoh becomes a province of the Hoenn Rangers. While not a Government, the Hoenn Rangers have a very heavy influence on both regions.
3100 – The Government fortifies the exterior of Kanto. The Government also makes a base in Goldenrod City, also sending a few Pokemon to be released into the local wild. Very strict laws are created in Johto.
3122 – Seafoam Island and Cinnabar Island are taken by Team Rocket through a brutal battle. Nearly 100 Pokemon died.
3123 – Florence dies, from some sort of mysterious Stroke. One of the Government executives, named Jackson, takes over Presidency.
3127 – Jackson signs a truce (called the ‘Treaty of Saffron’) with Team Rocket, signifying that no more battles be made for the next 100 years. Samuel Crescent IV is born.
3128-3150 – Jackson builds the new Government building north of Mt Moon, as well as Mountaincrest Town, to make up for their lost land. Team Rocket builds a Pokemon League, consisting of 5 Gyms and the Elite Four.
3161 – Samuel Crescent IV takes over presidency of Team Rocket.
3162 – Samuel Crescent V is born.
3180 – Jackson dies from natural causes. The Government is leaderless. Samuel Crescent V becomes President of Team Rocket.
3189 – The Pokemon Grand Champion, Evan Erias steps up as President, and is accepted by most officials and citizens as their new President. Samuel Crescent VI is born.
3198 – Lab facilities are opened by the Government, to test on Pokemon in preparation for the end of the Treaty.
3200 – A Lab facility is destroyed by a Jolteon being tested on, named Subject #002, nicknamed Soren.
3217 – 10 years before the Treaty ends, Evan Erias sends an attack on Cinnabar. Cinnabar wasn’t taken over, defended valiantly by the Gym Leader, Orus. Team Rocket quickly sent troops to reinforce the all the islands. Fortifications were made.
3218 – Entei nearly destroyed Vermillion City, but fled to Johto after a mysterious Pokemon defeated him. Samuel Crescent VI becomes President of Team Rocket, after his father died from a rare heart disease.
3221 – Various attacks were made on Cinnabar (and the other islands) and the other islands, but no land was gained. Team Rocket never took offensive action. The story starts.

General Mechanics –

Hidden:
Wild Pokemon – Facing wild Pokemon is mostly optional. Sometimes I’ll force it on the player (typically early in the RP). After that, your player can seek out wild Pokemon by means of fishing or walking through tall grass. Then I (the DM) will roll a d20 to determine what you find (the higher the roll, the rarer the Pokemon you find). You can only do 2 per day, due to your player getting “tired”.

Trainer Battles – Trainer battles will be forced upon the player. If the player loses, they must pay 10% of their cash flow. They can be added to your phone to ask if they want to hang out, battle, or whatever.

Phones – Everyone in your class is already added, and anyone who owns a phone (nearly everyone) can be added if asked. I won’t give random numbers; just the persons’ name. Think of it as everyone is on your speed dial. Texts exist. All phones are equipped with a video camera, picture camera, skype (“PokeConnect”), your Pokedex, and a Town Map.

Pokemon League

Kanto League – There’s a Grand Champion, and a Champion. To face the Champion, you need to pay 10000 PokeDollars if you lose (so you need to have some confidence before you fight him/her). If you win, you become Champion, and you have a choice: Fame or Money? You can challenge the Grand Champion, or keep making money through being Champion.

Rocket League – 5 Gyms, Elite Four, and Champion. Very traditional.

Trainer Types
Hidden:
Pick one. You don’t need to fully stereotype your character if you choose certain ones (ex. You’re not obligated to wear swimming trunks everywhere if you’re a swimmer.) I just figured this would be a creative “alternative” to Traits.

Rich Kid – 3000 at start – Gets tired more easily (1 wild Pokemon before you get fatigued)

Karate Expert – More stamina (3 wild Pokemon before you get fatigued) – (-2) to all dice rolls relating to wild Pokemon

Cool Kid – your Pokemon are more obedient – your Pokemon don’t get along very well with each other

Breeder – (+2) to all Wild Pokemon dice rolls – Pokemon receive slightly less xp

Mountain Climber – Wild Pokemon do less damage to you - Your Pokemon are less obedient

Swimmer – (+4) to all Wild Pokemon dice rolls found in the water – (-2) to all Wild Pokemon dice rolls on land

Pyro – You get a (+1) to all dice rolls when fighting other trainers – You get a (-2) to all dice rolls when fighting Wild Pokemon

Ninja – Your Pokemon have a 50% less chance of subduing to status effects – You get a (-1) to all dice rolls when fighting other trainers

Cyclist – You get a bike at the start of the RP – You are prone to much more “forced” wild Pokemon battles

Pokemaniac – You get a (+5) in all Wild Pokemon dice rolls – You get a (-2) to all dice rolls in battle

Youngster – You have a much stronger bond with your Pokemon – Your Pokemon is twice as prone to status effects

Bug Trainer – You get a (+2) to all wild Pokemon dice rolls – Larger Pokemon have much less obedience toward you

Velvet
Name: Terry Erksine.
Age: 17.
Trainer Type: Breeder.
Physical Characteristics: Terry is handsome enough, or so he thinks; standing at just under 6 foot and is of a fairly average build. He has dark brown hair, trimmed short at the back and sides but left to grow long on top; his fringe swept to the left across his forehead. He has brown eyes, a narrow nose and a masculine jaw.
Background: Terry comes from a father of breeders - both his mother and father being Pokemon breeders, and their parents before them being breeders - and it was only right that when he was old enough that he became a breeder too. He is fascinated by the way in which Pokemon grow and develop - evolution being the most intriguing stage of all - and if he could just sit and watch them all day then he most definitely would.

Pokemon: Staryu

Archer
Name: Jace Silverson
Age: 18
Trainer Type: Cool Kid
Physical Characteristics: At 5'9", Jace is near average height. He is also extremely skinny, almost unbelievably so. He has fiery red hair that reaches down to his neck, and blue eyes. Always wearing pants of some sort and a jacket, Jace dislikes extremely warm weather.
Background: Jace grew up in a small home in Saffron City, always dreaming of being a trainer. He never really socialized that much, though he has nothing against it, and always spent his time drawing and daydreaming about pokemon. Recently, Jace moved out and rented a small apartment near the ocean.
Type Preference: Dark/Fire
Pokemon: Growlithe

Nova

Alarra

Physical Characteristics: Kaya is slightly short for her age, and has blonde hair (fairly straight and slightly above shoulder length) with green eyes.
Background: Kaya's family hails from Johto. Her parents are relatively well-off, having worked for the Government in Goldenrod City. While they'd never owned Pokemon in the past due to their scarcity, they decided to purchase one, a Mareep, when Kaya was young, and it has grown up with her and is now a newly-evolved Ampharos. The family's love for their Pokemon inspired them to move to Kanto when Kaya was ten years old, where they could meet more of them and where Kaya could be enrolled in a Trainer's School, raising a Pokemon of her own.
Type Preference: Fire / Electric
Pokemon: Electrike

Unionhack
Name: Raven von Richter

Physical Characteristics: Raven has long black hair that reaches past her shoulder blades, the tips of which are dyed blue. Her eyes are a light lilac, and her skin is pale. Her oufits typically involve striped arm warmers and graphic tees, as well as plaid skirts and thigh-high socks. She does not dress befitting her social status.
Background: Daughter of a rich family in Hoenn, specifically Mossdeep. Raven was raised to be a confident and proper lady and the heir to the family business; that of managing the production of parts for the space program in Mossdeep. With no interest in business management, however, Raven passively rebelled against her parents' influence and decided to strike out on her own as a Pokemon trainer.
Type Preference: Ghost/Ice
Pokemon: Misdreavus

The-Shadow-One
Name: Jermes Lenardet
Age: 16
Trainer Type: Mountain Climber
Physical Characteristics:
Spoiler:
http://forums.uesp.net/viewtopic.php?p=1198321#p1198321

He's often found in a hoodie much like this and shorts (No one has yet to say if they are for swimming or that he just doesn't feel the cold.) He doesn't seem to like clothes all that much especially with his hard feet.
Background: Jermes was raised pretty much easy going, his family kept moving around and around, and he went after them in either just shorts or a big shirt or hoodie. As he grew older he kept to this traveling routine, hence why he is clothed how he is. He fully supports the idea that pokémon know what is best for themselves.
Type Preference: Ghost.

Age: 18
Trainer Type: Youngster
Physical Characteristics: 6'2, tanned, lean, wavy dark brown hair, brown eyes. Wears a green hoodie and jeans.

I'd be interested, but I'd rather RP a pokemon than a trainer... Is that an option that could be added?

Errr... Unfortunately I can't really think of a way to add that in... But that's actually a really good idea for another RP :P

I'll get to making up character sheet as soon as I can. I won't have time tonight. A quick question though; when exactly do we get to pick our pokemon? And what sort of pokemon can we choose?

The RP will start on the last day of your schooling, and you'll get taken to the lab and then you'll get to pick yours. I have a list of Pokemon you can choose from (there is 17 in total, split among 8 types).

Like start off as a wild pokemon, to be caught/encountered at some point, or previously caught by someone else in the RP. Or the likes of the legendary pokemon, or perhaps like the charzard sanctuary in the animation, there's loads of ways to do it.

Speech may be an issue, but if Meoth managed it properly and several others telepathically...

Out of curiosity, if I pull a full F.E.A.R. party at the Elite 4, or Grand Champion, will I get booted for exploiting pookiemanz?

She is very attractive. She wears a white top and green shorts with sandals. She also wears a bright blue bikini underneath it in case she decides to go swimming/
Background: Kalia grew up in Kanto and loved swimming as well as being in the water. She loves Pokemon and during an evening swim, she was approached by a friendly water pokemon. It allowed her to stroke it and she decided to become a trainer that evening.

Accomdation: A small but nice apartment just near the beach in Kanto. It has a wonderful view of the sea and the beach is literally a few steps away. She also lives with her friend, Sora Watanabe.

Type Preference: Water

Apologies for the short background as well, I don't really know much about Pokemon. Is this acceptable?

No, I'll provide a list (in-RP, they'll just be presented with labels and such and you just pick) and you can pick any Pokemon from that list. Treeko's are catch-able in the wild, but not a starter. If you guys don't mind spoilers (it's honestly like 10 minutes into the RP), I could post the list before the RP starts so you guys can ponder which you'll want

And goof, you'd have to find a Focus Sash first

Both applications are accepted :)

I assume by both applications you meant all. There's four up.

I wouldn't mind seeing the list.

I think I'm good most days next week in the afternoon. What times/days are good for everyone to start?

Like start off as a wild pokemon, to be caught/encountered at some point, or previously caught by someone else in the RP. Or the likes of the legendary pokemon, or perhaps like the charzard sanctuary in the animation, there's loads of ways to do it.

Speech may be an issue, but if Meoth managed it properly and several others telepathically...

OP?

Just in case you missed it...
