I only visited this dungeon from the "backdoor" and found out that you can loot a chest but can't go in further, but from back entry nothing like you described happened.

Huh, it might be a glitch, there's something [so far] unique in there;
Spoiler:
As you go through the dungeon you're followed by a growing number of [cute :P] glowing bouncy ball things. I'm not sure what exactly they're for, they don't "do" anything except go crazy once you get to a door you have to use a dragonclaw on, behind which you have a bossfight.
Has it happened multiple times? Or just the once?
Afaik the location isn't important, it's just a little side-dungeon with a very small puzzle near the start.

Cheers folks, I read that there wasnt any...phew glad thats took it off me mind, still annoyed as i wanted to go through every dungeon and stuff in game, guess I will try it on next playthrough. Anyone gone through it on the PS3 without issues? I also seem to be a small chosen one who does not appear to suffer any lag either and me save file now is over 8mb, played over 50 hours and still running smoothly, only issue so far has been Yngol Barrow :(

I got the pitch black and glowing colors when going in with my wife/housecarl Iona.
I had to dashboard out. I retried about 6 times after leaving the area with the same result and no way to get out or load last save.
Much later I came back without her and it loaded fine. I got to the puzzle door to find I also didn't have the Coral Claw. Went back to my home in Riften and the glowing blue lights had followed me home! With Iona and the claw I re-entered and got the black. Restarted and had her wait outside and it was fine.

There is a unique item that drops in there called the helm of Yngol, so if you're into collecting unique equipment, then this glitch is sort of a big deal. Otherwise, there's no real point in going in there (although, admittedly, my level 35 Nord warrior is still wearing that thing and is practically immune to cold damage because of it, lol).

I would be interested in knowing if having a follower is causing the loading glitch.
On a side note, the blue orbs that followed me when I left mid-raid didn't return with me to the barrow with the claw and aren't at the Riften house. I was kind of hoping they would stay at the house.

I didn't lag til I hit a 11MB save and even now its not as bad as some say. I'll try this barrow tonight and see if it works for me.
I don't think the PS3 lag is save size related, but fast-travel causing a memory leak. I believe the game continues tracking characters from your previous location when you fast travel, just as people near the door of your house will follow you inside if they're near the door when you enter.

Got a follower with you? Following the thread that seems to have been someone else's problem.

I read this earlier, so I took my wife/follower there, and had no problems.

I had been there on my own previously though.

I am on PC.

Tried the follower thing, didn't work for me.

What did work was making a new save once inside the "blacked out" dungeon and then loading that save. The dungeon loads fine, it's just entering it that is glitched.

I also took a follower, and went in alone.
All was fine, and I'm on 360.

And also, just by the way, I think the glowing orb things are the Sea Ghosts, mentioned in the book "Yngol and the Sea Ghosts".

Yngol Barrow also has a small quest attached, could be its not triggering properly by entering the cave. You could try visiting Birna's house in Winterhold, she gives you the quest to go there (you effectively buy the coral claw off her instead of finding it in the cave, If I remember correctly).
