To anyone who has read the 7 chapter series...why did they end up cooking Scotti's two friends, Jurus and Basth?

I assume this is applied at the end, with the two rubies found in in the Unthrappa, which after googling I assume is a human (elf, orc, human) dish.

Did they cook the two as punishment for Scotti taking so long with the contracts?
