I've never been a Mage in a ES game. I'd like to go glass cannon, but I'd like to do a variety of things too, so, can someone offer some help in the form of builds?

I find yes, if you manage your stamina and magicka points decently well when leveling up and choose your perks wisely. I started early on adding perks to my one hand skill and picking destruction here and there (as well as heavy armor and restoration, as I forgo conjuration) and my character is pretty stable. It takes a very powerful thing to kill me. It can be done - just be creative with your perks!

(I'm doing a battlemage, albeit a bit more heavy on the one hand/sword than the magic.)

Where do I download all the patches? I have the Skyrim PC version. I've looked at the Bethesda website and they have patches for other games (like Oblivion), but no Skyrim. I think the most recent patch is 1.2.

It doesn't appear to be available at the moment, but I would recommend not downloading it, as it appears to break all magic and disease resistance (whether it's racial or otherwise) on both console versions. Chances are, it'll do the same thing with the PC folk.

Bethesda may have managed a brilliant PR campaign to sell the game, but their support team certainly isn't anything worth mentioning. They've managed to anger an awful lot of people with the way they've handled fixes to date.

QFT. And gods know that when TES 6 comes out, we'll have M'aiq talking about how he doesn't understand why "people get so angry about patches" or something -_-

If there is a TES 6, I sure ain't buying it until after the GOTY package comes out and it's been heavily patched. Never again will I be suckered by Bethesda.

I wish I knew what happened. In ten years playing Morrowind, I've experienced one. one. quest-breaking glitch. And it was so minor I didn't even care. (It was literally a quest to cure some dude's rash, lol [and the only problem with said quest is that I'd killed the guy who could cure him, so really, it wasn't even a glitch])
Oblivion? Don't even get me started.
Skyrim? First quest-breaking glitch encountered on the very first day. Generally more stable than Oblivion but come on. I think a lot of it is that they knew they couldn't make the 11.11.11 deadline, but didn't want to postpone the game. I wager they figured they could just fix any lingering problems with a patch and be done with it.

Hey guys, please reserve this thread for questions and not discussions. There are a few threads about the patch in the Skyrim-Discussion thread, including an announcement up at the top. Thanks!

So. Hand-to-hand... How does it work in Skyrim. Also, Shields, can you equip them to your right hand?

I'm no expert on hand-to-hand, as I like myself a good blade, but you can equip shields on whichever arm you want. You have the freedom to equip any one handed item on whichever hand you choose. Lovely!

Well, [&@%!]. One.of you is either mistaken or lieing. Eh, I hope I can equip a shield on my right hand because I intemd my guy to be a lefty like me. If the shield won't equip on my right, Dual wield it is.

You can't? I swore I totally did. I'll have to go back and try it.

You can't equip a shield in your right hand.

As far as hand-to-hand goes, there's no Skill. Kajiits get a boost to it's damage (it's 11, I think), and there's a Heavy Armor Perk that lets you add the Armor Rating of the Gauntlets you're wearing directly to your H2H damage.

I stand corrected. Clearly my character is directionally impaired.

I have a question about the mountains: Can you hop up mountains like Oblivion? And can you slide down them and not die?

If you slide down a mountain chances are you will slip and very likely fall to your death. Or at least that is what always happens to me. I tend to stick to roads and hiking away from the ends of mountains...I find that the whole gravity thing is more of a pain in Skyrim than the other TES games.

Well, it's not as if everyone is right handed, and I don't see how a character who might right handed with a sword is expected to fight when they have to hold a shield on the right hand. But that's me trying to bring logic into a video game, and we all know what good that does us!

Time for a question from me. I see that horses seem to have ages. Does this affect their abilities - you know, strength and speed? What's the best one? The worst one? I'm assuming there are two ends of the horse scale.

Well, If you did the whole, "jump-walking trying to break through the spots where you can't walk" thing in Oblivion, it's slightly easier.

How do I get my stolen things back?

I got arrested and paid the fine but I can't find the jail. My character appeared outside the city guards barracks. I'm at the first town btw.

Try looking around the jail, but I highly doubt it.

The jails in Oblivion (sometimes inside the count castles if I'm not wrong) had chests with the stolen items. I haven't found anything like that.

I'll look around again, thanks...

First, I am pretty sure that I have seen Evidence Chest in Skyrim dungeons, too. I might be wrong in this, but was it in Oblivion in such way, that if you paid, your stolen items were gone forever; you needed to go to jail, break free, take the things from evidence chest, and let your doyen to deal with the bounty? But as said, I am not even 25% sure about this...
