No sweat :D
I think Avron did a better job than I did anyway

I have a question of my own; anybody know where I can get a good description of how all the magic resistances are checked this time around?
There isn't even a page yet on the UESP that I could tell for Absorb Magicka. I'm aiming to become immune, or as close as possible to it.

I see that Resist Magicka is capped at 85%, but I'm not sure about elemental. And I'd assume the two effects are still checked separately, right? Resist Magicka 85% + Resist Fire 15% =/= Fire immunity?

I read a post that said 80% Absorb Magicka vs. a 300 dam spell = 60 damage... is that how Absorb is implemented now? No longer a roll for a complete absorption or nothing?

Yes, Magic and Elemental Resists are calculated separately, and both cap out at 85%. Magic Resist is applied before Elemental Resist.
You can get a maximum of 97.75% resist using both at their cap.

Absorb is same as Oblivion, you take no damage or all damage, and it caps at 80%.

Source. [Ctrl+F "Resist"]

E: And Spell Absorbtion is indeed on the Skyrim section of the wiki. :P

Ah, Thank you :D

Whaaat? I went through the Magic Effects page, and it's listed under Restoration, but it's the only one in red. ...I suppose I could have just used the search function anyway -facepalm
Thanks again!

That is weird. I'm looking at it now:
uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Magical_Effects has Absorb Magic in red under restoration.
www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Magical_Effects has Spell Absorbtion under Destruction.

The Destruction school is only associated with the Atronach variant of Spell Absorption (even though the Alteration school provides the perk). The other two variants do not have any associated school. I don't believe you can acquire this effect any other way, so perhaps an oversight on Bethesda's part considering that the Perk is an Alteration one?

Well, Spell Absorption to my memory was 'originally' an Alteration Spell. I think the oversight is including it in Destruction's repertoire

Legendary.

But that is just a name. Under the hood the quality of your gear just keeps scaling up with the smithing bonus you get from gear and potions.
If you want to get the beast possible tempering you need enchanted gear with Fortify Smithing and Fortify Smithing potions.

Alrighty folks, I'm back as I am experiencing a problem with the quest "Repairing the Phial"

In order to complete this quest, I must kill a Forsworn Briar Heart and take a briar heart from him. Problem: I already did this, but he didn't have one on him. The quest arrow is still on his corpse and won't go away.

I checked the page here and apparently there is a glitch in the quest that does something like this if you start the quest with a briar heart already in your inventory. I did not know this before I started...

BUT, there's something unique to my glitch [as far as I know]. When I went to the quest objectives, I saw that instead of saying "Take a Briar Heart," it said "Take a Forsworn Heart."

The fudge is going on and how can I fix it?

I am playing on an Xbox 360, btw.

Thank-you very much!
-Carly

P.S. It gave me the Red Sword quest again -__-'

My question is probably very noobish, how on earth do you kill frost trolls? I've killed an ordinary troll from afar with a bow, but when I came across the frost troll on the way to see the Greybeards I ended up having to blast a bit of flame at it so that I could dodge round it and run like hell! :D

I've admittedly been very lazy about honing my magical abilities, because heavy armour and my warhammer have got me so far in my wanderings around Skyrim up until now. Do I have to bite the bullet and get my magic mojo on? I think I was a bit reluctant at first because I've never played the Xbox before (ex nintendo fangirl) and found the controls weird to start with.

When you are low level then some of the wildlife (also bears and saber cats) are a big problem. This problem goes away quickly as you level up however.

To make the lower levels more pleasant, concentrate on getting ONE offensive and ONE defensive skill as high and powerful as possible.
This could be archery/lightarmor, destruction/illusion, twohanded/heavyarmor, or whatever you wish.

Thanks, I'm cool with most outside encounters - bears, saber cats, even dragons - but that frost troll annihilated me! I'm level 17 at the moment, I've spent most of my gameplay time wandering around skyrim levelling up and adding to my heavy armour/two handed skill set. I've got an orcish warhammer that sets foes on fire now, so maybe that will help?

Carlyndra, you might want to start a topic for your question - it's very specific. It would get more attention that way. :)

As for the Frost Trolls: man, they beat me up constantly and I was level 14 before my reset. Best way to kill them is to use fire spells from afar, as that's their weakness. I happened to have a great fiery scroll of utter doom, and it helped. If you get shouts you can blast them into the distance. The problem is when they get close - one swipe and they've got you before you can say "STOP RIGHT THERE!" But I've no real good advice...except to do what I do and run in the other direction!

I was just curious, do guards respawn?

I'd assume they do, but I'd like to be sure.

Ofcourse they do.

We don't want a hold being run by bandits, now, do we?

I've got 13 bottles of Alto Wine in my inventory that I can't use as they are apparently part of a quest, the problem being I can't see a quest they should be part of. Am I overlooking something, or is this a bug?

Is it a Misc. quest? It is quite possible that it is.

Nothing listed at all in Misc or any quest sections, I also tried going round all the "Can I have a drink?" NCPs to see if one of them had triggered it, but no joy. Earlier I picked up another Alto Wine and was able to drink it, but still none off the 13. Tried it again (bought another) but now it won't let me touch that, so I have 14 untouchable alto's. Can't store them in my house either, or sell them - they seem to be stuck.

Well, it's just 7 pounds, I think that won't hinder you that much.

Also, I got stuck with an amulate of Talso and it was a quest item but I found an NPC who wanted one and I gave it to her, do you rember where you took the Wine? If worst comes to worst, reload a save file and deal with the loss of progress.

I think I know what's going on. Generally, if you have a stack of items (gems, Amulets, etc.), and one of them becomes a quest item, either the entire stack becomes treated as a quest item, or, the game puts the quest-related item at the top of the stack, and therefor you are unable to drop the other items below it in the stack.

Happened to me with a couple Amulets of Talos, and has reportedly happened to stacks of amethyst.

From what I can tell, the wine is related to this quest.
