How to run Redguard in a window?

Thu Jul 16, 2020 5:36 am

The graphics is too ugly to play in fullscreen.

I have a GOG version, but unfortunately it won't run in a window no matter what. I've edited dosbox_redguard.conf in the main folder and dosbox.conf in DOSBOX folder by setting fullscreen to "false". It didn't help. I tried alt+enter to switch to window, but it doesn't work. There's also a file in the main folder called "DOSBOX Configuration" and I tried to configure the settings there, but the game completely ignores any settings that you specify. Apparently the settings are somehow set in stone by GOG and you cannot change them through any means.

So I tried to run it through a separate DOSBOX on my own. I ran the game through it (it's located in REDGUARD folder), but I got an error "Not installed from CD-ROM: Drive D is not a CD-ROM". Of course it's not a CD-ROM, I do not even have a CD-ROM... T_T And I cannot install it from CD-ROM, either.

Is there any way to run this game other than through a messed-up GOG's DOSBOX that ignores my settings? I want to play, but in fullscreen my eyes bleed.

You can change the resolution of the game with the launcher (Redguard.exe in the game directory). There you can even set it to the native pixel density of a 1080p screen, though that might kill your FPS by a good amount.
