I'm a fan of Oblivion and I took many years off (Saved game state was from 2008....) I love the game and I've recently discovered that there is an Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. I've suffered through the Vampire cure glitch by actually having to rent an older Oblivion to complete the quest. Having experienced a glitch in Oblivion, I researched Skyrim glitches. It seems like there are many problems with Skyrim on the PS3? Is that truly the case or are there just a few people who are yelling the loudest for the longest amount of time? Should I get Skyrim for my PS3? I truly love Oblivion and find it to be infinitely entertaining, even for a title that is over 5 years old. Should I just play Oblivion for a few more years and then get Skyrim, hoping that all the problems have been tackled?

In my entire time playing Skyrim I've only experienced two bugs that completely ruined a questline that couldn't be fixed by reloading. So I would say based on my experience the occurrence of serious bugs is uncommon but when they do happen you will be [&@%!]. Best advice would be to keep frequent saves so if you do encounter a bug like this you don't have to go too far back to recover from it. Of course my best preference is to get Skyrim for PC to have the benefit of the command console to get around bugs but that isn't a viable option for everyone.

PS3 version is fine. Just keep a number of different manual saves and turn off auto save. Of course you could always wait for the eventual Game Of The Year edition with all the DLC if you feel like you could handle the wait. The first DLC for Skyrim on PS3 is coming to the store Wednesday. They are half price for the 1st week too.

Hey, don't blame me. Blame the stupid people who run the different branches of Sony.

The PS3 version most likely isn't as bad as people say it is, but if you have the option, do go for its Xbox or PC counterparts, as they usually have less problems (and are favored by the developers).

I didn't have any problems on the PS3 for the most part. (In fact, most major bugs/glitches I heard of came from Xbox players.) I play on PC now because it is so much better for a number of reasons (for Skyrim, that is. Your choice of gaming console doesn't detract much from the experience if you're a fan of the series.), but I could still play on the PS3 if I wanted to. In fact, I use a PS3 controller to play Skyrim on the PC. . . so much easier. You'll get the experience of the game as it was meant to be played on Ps3, if that's what you're asking. :D

I'm kind of surprised to hear you guys say that your game was running well on PS3. I have two buddies who tried to play it on that, and they both wound up with a slow frame rate mess that caused them to re-buy it for the PC at a later date.

Was this problem fixed by one of the patches?

Well, considering that the PS3 is soon getting 1.8 as well as all of the DLC, I'd assume that at least some of the game-breaking glitches were fixed.

I have built up a pretty nice PC platform. Both it and my PS3 use my Sony TV and stereo receiver for audio and video. 5.1 digital surround sound on a 47" Bravia running 60Mhz makes for a very pleasing gaming environment. My PC has a core 2 quad running at 4Ghz, 8 GB of RAM, and a very good NVidia graphics card. Should I get Skyrim for the PC instead? I have a wireless keyboard if it is a better overall way to control the game.

That is a good thought. One other thought as it relates to Oblivion is that the GOTY Oblivion reintroduced the Vampire cure glitch due to the Shivering Isles expansion pack. I know it is impossible to answer but what, in your opinion, is the likelihood that a GOTY Skyrim would reintroduce bugs that had been previously fixed? Would it be safer to get a known, patched version and then spend the extra money buying the DLC? I worry that a firm, besides Bethesda, will repackage the game from an earlier un-patched state that is combined with the DLC and then unleash it.

I had to spend $6.50 to be able to complete the quest in Oblivion, and now I think I will just buy the game to keep around in case I want to play it as a thief or something.

They can't use a pre 1.8 game for the bundle with DLC, it's the minimum patch level required for dragonborn.

I don't really understand the dates that were announced for the DLC, why are there two? And I live in Italy so I have the Italian PS Store but I bought the game in England so I wouldn't have to play it in the crappy Italian translation. When I download the DLC, in what language will they be?

North America dates and europe dates, IIRC. They could do one date but they decided not to. Most likely, the DLC will be in Italian, and aside from going to England, downloading DLC there, then coming back to Italy I can't think of how you could get the english translation.

Still, my game is in English. Wouldn't that cause a few problems?

On second thought, I haven't touched Skyrim in a long time. I might just wait for the GOTY and get it next time I go to London. Half my family's there, it's not like I don't often go!
