Clavicus just told me to get the Rueful Axe... do I have to travel all the way to the cave with Barbas? If I tell him to stop following me will he meet me there or will it glitch the quest?

You can fast travel, but I prefer the hike since it's a lot more fun and he helps you kill enemies :)

I couldn't be bothered taknig Barbas all over Skyrim with me, so I left him in Clavicus's cave and when I came back with the axe told him to follow me again just before I spoke to Clavicus Vile. It didn't glitch the quest at all.

It's funny to have him with you though because he's invincible. I got a good laugh out of watching him just bite a frost dragon in the face over and over again, while taking a blast of frost breath like it was nothing lol.

I'd ditch him, Barbas is the pushiest companion ever. I'd be trying to target a precise thing, and here comes Barbas "WOOF WOOF WOOF!" charging into me and pushing me away from what I want. Also, I'm never able to sneak with him around, probably because dogs can't go into sneak mode like other companions.

My most annoying fight involved Barbas on my archer woodelf character.

I was on my way to retrieve the axe got sidetracked by a dragon shrine. I killed the dragon away from the shrine and when I approached the word-wall, a dragon-priest popped out. So of course Barbas and Shadowmere start stomping on him...but he keeps backpeddling and spamming fireballs. The horse and dog are invincible, but to next to no damage to this guy, and I cant hit him with a single shot as he keeps jinking around as he tries to escape the murderous horse/dog tagteam.

I think that fight took like 10 minutes and I ended up closer to dawnstar than the dragon shrine by the time he died...

I couldn't sneak with him around either, so I just told him to wait for me in front of a random cave I had business in. He sat down, I went in, cleared the cave, came out, and he was nowhere to be seen. I said, well, duh, and went on my way, then around two-three RL days (who knows how many Skyrim ones) later I went to get that axe and tried to trade it in with Clavicus... Barbas was nowhere, but when I started to speak with the statue, he magically appeared. Quest went without a glitch.

This is what I ended up doing. Thanks for the tip.

I took the dog with me for a while, but ultimately I had to ditch him. He was annoying me too much.
