battlespire-
pros- decent storyline, other then that not much to say.
cons- BAD GRAPHICS!!!!!!

redquard-
pros- graphics better, not too better, but better.
cons- not much of a storyline. graphics are TOO CUBEY.

morrowind-
pros- great graphics at that time and even now, fabulous storyline.
cons- nothing really.

oblivion-
pros- fine, long storyline, lots of freeplay.
cons- the races look like KRAP! orcs look like green gorillas, and the rest look reeeeeeall cruddy.

skyrim-
pros- GREAT game, great storylines, everythings great.
cons- lots of glitches, the ps3 one is filled with glitches and lags.

Wrong forum but don't worry i'm sure a mod will move it to TES General.

IMO Morrowind would be the best, but it's severely hindered by its horrible, horrible engine.

Bad graphics are not a con if the game was made over ten years ago. That would be like looking through your grandma's photo album from when she was a little girl and telling her that the camera sucks. It makes no sense.

But seriously, the best game for its time was almost definitely Morrowind.

For their time and size arena and daggerfall had pretty good graphics.

Morrowind, hands down. The graphics were good for its time and the storyline and atmosphere were both fantastic. Dunmeri chainsmokers ftw. And the lore was sodding brilliant, Kirkbride at its best.

Don't... Don't make me choose! Fine... I'll give my opinions on the Elder Scrolls games I've played for a decent amount of time.
Morrowind:
Spoiler:
Pros: Greatest bloody theme song in TES, no contest. It's so relaxing, yet when you hear it, you know you're going on an awesome adventure. I also like the massive weapon variety, something I though Skyrim lacked. Oh, and the story. Of course.
Cons: These are rather obvious. The walking animations look like the characters didn't make it to the outhouse in time (Speaking of that, why haven't I seen a single outhouse or toilet in any TES game? What, do they just go in the woods?), the graphics are unimpressive, at least by today's standards, and the physics engine is non-existent. That and, even though this may sound pathetic and whiny, I hated not having quest markers. I can't remember anything anyone tells me. I'm not exaggerating either. I literally have to check the journal every few steps to make sure I read it right.

Oblivion:
Spoiler:
Pros: Great story, the graphics, while mediocre by today's standards, are impressive for the time, and the mods are just great (I'm talking about the ones with effort put into them, not the Megan Fox/Hooker companion mods that seem to be commonplace.). Oh, and you can do a backflip. A BACKFLIP.
Cons: Game seems a bit buggy, you can't have a beard, and sometimes the collision just felt annoying.

Skyrim:
Spoiler:
Pros: Just as I said with the rest, the story (Not the main quest. That was a bit dull.). The graphics are breathtaking, the slo-mo scenes, while buggy, are still pretty cool looking and satisfying, and I'll admit, some of the dumbing down I do appreciate for making it more accessible to idiots like me, and beards. BEARDS. MY LOVELY FACIAL HAIR! MY SCRAGGLY MESS OF AWESOME!
Cons: Removal of the Acrobatics skill. That was my favorite skill, without a doubt. They will pay for keeping me from backflipping across Tamriel. The main quest was, for the most part, predictable, the weapons had virtually no variety. (Each new weapon type just seemed to be a straight upgrade. There weren't any pros or cons you could use to consider your choice. The fancier the weapon looked, the stronger.), and the dragons are pansies.

From the two I've played, Oblivion and Skyrim, I'd have to say (BARELY, JUST BARELY) Oblivion. It's way more colorful, loot is more satisfying, and the amount of items and quests is just great. Graphics are great, and the main quest is AWESOME!!! Also, I first played it in the summer, so I had way more time and a school-free environment to enjoy it all I want.

Skyrim, on the other hand, is in a better province IMO, (always wanted to frolic through a pine forest) and the graphics are better. The main quest was pretty disappointing, I have to say. :( Also the removal of the speed and acrobatics skills tics me off! I miss being able to role-play 'He-Who-Jumps-Across-Streets' :x

I can think of tons of cons for morrowind. And honestly I felt the repetitive environment more of a problem than the faces.

For me Oblivion is the best. I don't have any problem with it, Morrowind is rich in lore and more hardcore, but it gets boring quickly. Skyrim is okay, but could be better.

I haven't gotten into morrowind or daggerfall enough to make a judgement on them. Oblivion certainly wins in the modding category, but as a game in general, Skyrim.

You can't judge which game wins in the modding category until Skyrim's Creation Kit is released (argh, BethSoft, y u no release the CK/let us achieve CHIM?)

Saying old games have bad graphics is just stupid hahaha I'm laughing at you. Morrowind is hands-down the best for me, because I loved everything about it, even things a lot of people don't like, such as combat, which was for me a lot more fun than Oblivion because you do different moves depending on where you move and each weapon had different damage for Chop, Slash, Hack, or whatever so it felt more strategic. The story was amazing and was what got me into the lore, and I really felt for the characters I met. And the soundtrack (which I guess some people don't like and will be dealt with) went perfectly with whatever I was doing in the game and the ambient noises added feeling to my adventuring.

If they re-released Daggerfall with a Skyrim-level graphics engine it would be awesome! No contest!!!

Morrowind is the greatest of the series, in my opinion, because it was an alien world to me. The whole continent of Vvardenfell is made of rocks, volcanoes, and loaded with made up creatures that were unheard of prior to the game's creation. Oblivion and Skyrim follow the more generic "look" of RPG's by using forests, mountains, and generic creatures, like bears, wolves, mountain lions, spiders, etc. The story was really interesting, and the supporting characters in the plot did not hold your hand through the quest, like the Blades of Oblivion, and the Greybeards if Skyrim did. Tribunal was interesting, and it was cool to see what actually happened to the Tribunal after they lost their power. Bloodmoon didn't have much, it added Solstheim to the map, willed with (still) beautiful mountains and snow, and I really liked the addition of werewolves to the game, but the story wasn't incredibly interesting, and the only reason it was worth doing was so you can become a werewolf.

My next in line would be Oblivion, I enjoyed its storyline. The plugins added wonderfully to the lore of Tamriel, and it was really cool to enter into a Daedric Prince's realm and take his place, that was a pretty surprising move on Bethesda's part to add that, and it worked. I also like the Knights of the Nine plugin, because it added a wonderful, albeit short, story to the game, rather than just content like the others. There was excellent voice acting, and the climatic scenes were very emotional. The ending, when Martin was commentating after the defeat of Mehrunes was excellent.

Skyrim comes in 3rd, because, although it has excellent graphics, beautiful terrain, and a fantastic Radiant AI, the game's story just feels generic to me. It isn't exactly the first game where you have to fight and defeat a dragon. The voice acting was good, and I like the variety of actors used. The guilds all have very short questlines, all of which can easily be knocked out in about an hour and a half or so, if you know what you're doing, and that took away from the game, in my opinion.

That is my opinion, and I apologize if I wrote too long of a post, I have been contributing to the wiki for months, and this is only the first time I posted in the forums.

I have only played Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim so I can't comment on the others BUT...

With every successive game the graphics and interface are better and better, more voice acting etc, definitely a bigger and more profound media experience. Which is to be expected as each game is built to use the latest state-of-the-art technology. Long may that continue!

However the gameplay (skills, quests, factions etc.) seems to be getting progressively more bland and generic with each new game. The way the skills are forced into the three equal sized groups of Combat, Stealth and Magic is artificial. So is the removal of the attributes in Skyrim, having fewer playable factions and so on.

For these, and similar, reasons I would say, from a purely gameplay viewpoint that Daggerfall is better than Morrowind, which is better than Oblivion, which is better than Skyrim.

Certainly Oblivion became a much richer experience for me once I had added Knights Of The Nine, Shivering Isles, and a whole host of the better user created mods. I can't wait to see what comes out once the Skyrim mods start.

All IMHO of course!

Skyrim is the best out of the bunch because it is simply just the better game but I loved Shivering Isles the most, won't go into much detail, I am sure I am not the only one.
