Welcome one and all to the reintroduction of the Competition of the Month!

These monthly competitions are a chance for you to demonstrate your creativity and talents while getting a chance to know your fellow members and have a little fun. Each month is going to have a different theme and a different talent – and maybe a surprise or two! For this first competition I’m going to choose a theme to get things started, but next month it’s going to be up to you to contribute to the idea pool, so don’t give up if this one doesn’t interest you.

Some of you may remember the old Competition of the Month held by Moderator Dean, and some of you may be new to the idea, but these are going to be a little different and hopefully just as enjoyable. Let’s review the rules for everyone:


Our schedule for the April event is as follows:
March 28 – April 1: Setting up and announcing the theme.
April 1 – April 21: Competition begins! Start planning and send in those submissions!
April 22 – April 29: Voting starts.
April 30: Our winner is announced!

Since March 20th was the celebration of Oblivion’s first release five years ago, this month’s competition is going to feature your favorite character from Cyrodiil. Both writers and artists will be this month’s talent venue, but to kick things off we’re going to have a little twist.

4/1 Edit: Happy April, everyone, and fear not - this competition is not an April Fool's joke. It is now time to start planning your entries, but here's the announcement: you're not going to do it alone!

That's right - this competition is going to be a team effort! Together with your partner, who has randomly been selected from the participants, you're going to take the characters you chose and create a submission about what happens when they bump into each other at a tavern of your choosing in the Imperial City. We seem to be outnumbered by writers here, but if you're lucky enough to have an artist in your team, see what sort of illustration they'll create to go with your story. Don't forget to work together!

The teams are as follows:

Anyone who would still like to join in, please let us know and I will add you to an existing team if you change your mind in a timely manner. If your partner cannot participate, or if you are having problems, please PM me and we'll find a solution. This is the first time we are trying this so it'll be an experiment - but let's make it fun!

I would like to write a poem about City Swimmer.

I'll be writing about Ungolim. He's my favourate, because of his secrecy around the brotherhood. And the lucky lady statue.

Excellent character selections so far, everyone! It's going to be interesting. Don't get too carried away just yet; I have a little surprise to announce on April 1st! Until then, keep signing up guys!

I'm considering entering as an artist with the Gatekeeper. That said, I can't offer a commitment, so if you're doing a bracket or something I probably won't enter officially (I might still submit something for S'n'Gs though).

I might participate as an artist, but since I haven't played Oblivion in a while, I'll have to pop in the ol' disc and come up with an NPC later because I can't really remember many characters right now.

Well then. Definitely a writer... Hmmm... My favorite character... let's go with... M'aiq! Yes, I shall write a grand story about the origins of M'aiq the liar, from his point of view! (truth value is probably low)

do the charactor's have to be npc's?

I know a really brave, awesome, nord guy named Terwonick who has saved the world 4 times, and in eight months will do so again! It is my wish to do a story about him and his escape(s) from death.

NPCs are preferred for purposes of the thing I am yet to announce, but I don't have a problem with allowing a good player character in!


And now that you're all interested, tell your friends, too! This is a forum-wide competition and the more we have, the merrier. Remember that it isn't about how "good" or "bad" you are - it's about coming together as members and all having some fun!

I want to be in on this, but the thing is that I can't promise anything. I don't know if I'll have time enough, or, even more likely, if I can get my muse to finally come home from her vacation!
