It's hard for me to decide because I like all of them. I would have to say music.

This is a great topic.

They are all wonderful things in life, they are things things which give our existence meaning, they convey emotions to us which nothing else possibly could, and they are as far as I'm concerned my favorite form of entertainment.

Music is my passion in life, and I truly hope to be a great world class musician someday. (Though Redguard-Mage just showed me up with his awesome piano skills :P )

Literature ranks slightly below music, though nevertheless an amazing accomplishment of human ingenuity, and truly one of my loves in life. My favorite pieces of Literature are that of Arthurian Legend, Divine Comedy, and more contemporary, The Dark Tower series.

Though I never particularly found Physical Art to be something of emotional value to me, I think it is a beautiful interpretation of humanity's view on the surrounding world.

Literature wins, hands down. Although I love both music and art, I prefer the variety provided by literature. I have this weird... thing about words. I can't get enough of them, and what people manage to do with them. This is one of my favourites for showing what you can do with words:

Opening the Cage: 14 Variations on 14 Words
"I have nothing to say and I am saying it and that is poetry." — John Cage

I have to say poetry and is that nothing and am I saying it
I am and I have poetry to say and is that nothing saying it
I am nothing and I have poetry to say and that is saying it
I that am saying poetry have nothing and it is I and to say
And I say that I am to have poetry and saying it is nothing
I am poetry and nothing and saying it is to say that I have
To have nothing is poetry and I am saying that and I say it
Poetry is saying I have nothing and I am to say that and it
Saying nothing I am poetry and I have to say that and it is
It is and I am and I have poetry saying say that to nothing
It is saying poetry to nothing and I say I have and am that
Poetry is saying I have it and I am nothing and to say that
And that nothing is poetry I am saying and I have to say it
Saying poetry is nothing and to that I say I am and have it

Hmm... I'm stuck between literature and art.

Literature conveys emotions and meanings through use of words and techniques. Art does this through solid images. While I love a good book it just doesn't hit me as much a artwork does. Seeing how a person uses different methods to convey their intent is something I just marvel at. Especially installation artworks. They allow you to walk around, through, over and under. Touch, smell, hear and sometimes taste. Get you to interact in some cases. It's just the best kind of art.

If an artist called Elliason does an exhibit near you, you have to go. He does some amazing installation works that make you wonder how he comes up with it.

So, yeah. I choose art then.

The choice is clear: art. I'm a hopelessly visual person, and sculpture is my love, beside architecture.

I can appreciate art and literature but I dont have specific favourites. I suppose Timberlake Wertenbaker's play Three Birds Alighting On A Field is the closest at combining the two. I played an art dealer called Jeremy in that play and got an insight in to the world of art dealing. My favourite play is called Road by Jim Cartwright. Its hard hitting Thatcher's Britain kitchen sink drama. I love it and if you are lucky enough to come across the televised version of Road you will see the wonderful actress Jane Horrocks in perhaps her finest role.

Music is by far my most favourite and I feel blessed that I can enjoy many different styles. Classical, soul, Gospel, gangster rap, electronica, blues. It all depends on the mood of the day.

I think all three compliment each other. I would be quite content sipping a cappuccino in the Tate Gallery while reading some Irish poetry with Debussy's Pour Le Piano suite playing in the background. Heaven.

Im a music junkie pure and simple. Theres just something about words that touch me more then any visual piece can.

With words you can express everything you feel and make the listner feel the same if your really that good, like say I love the smiths who where one of the best bands in my opinion in the last 40 years and have a big impact on me.

Ever heard a song and really listened to it and its made you shiver all over? thats what I call good music.

It's too hard a question to answer. They're ancient things, and they're hopelessly intertwined. Music is art, literature is art, there is music in literature, there is literature in music, there is rhythm in art. I can't say I like one better than the other, because they depend on each other so heavily, that without one, there wouldn't be the other.

Ditto

Though I must say that I'm partial to literature...

All can vividly express your soul. While I like all three, the one that has always been able to speak to me the most, is music.

Music and Literature hold an equal spot in my heart, however I don't believe they can even be compared. Literature is a tangible way to relay ideas and emotions, it can change the world, drive revolutions, however it is still a very solid thing. Generally, a book really only has a limited number of ways in which it can be PRACTICALLY interpreted (I don't mean those interpretations that make as much sense as conspiracy theories). Literature is more about enlightening the mind and being. Music, however, is an obscure art. We all hear things different ways, and, based on personal experiences, different sounds may evoke different reactions.

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times" is very solid. It doesn't change. Another person doesn't read it as "It was the bost of thymes". One may believe the contradiction in terms represents ambiguity and confusion; another may interpret it as being a reflection of the variety in thought and opinion in what was then-modern society. Yes, they are different, however very fundamentally connected. It is VERY unlikely that a third party will believe it is the disclosure of Charles Dickens's longing desire to violate a unicorn named Feodor. Music is the exact opposite.

A simple four-note motif can bring so many different images to a listener's mind. It may reflect past experiences, it may be simple awe, or perhaps disgust. One may picture it as the theme to a man living a certain life. Another may take it as a sort of musical representation of the going-ons inside the mind of a schizophrenic. Unlike the belief regarding Charles Dickens's attraction to mystical equines, none of them are blatantly off-course. Music is the most interpretive of the three mediums.

Anyhow, with all that, I declare it impossible to compare tangible enlightenment to obscure emotion-evocation.

Music.

I don't really like art, it's just a picture, and some of it just looks unskilled to me. (I could make paintings that look like some of the professional paintings. No offence to any painters out there.)

like literature, but I don't really like rereading most books, so after I run out of books, I get bored.

Music. Music is awesome. Like books, their are different songs about different subjects, and many different "authors" (bands). Also I can re-listen to any song I like, which unless you get bored with the song, (In which case you can listen to another song) you can listen to another song.

This is just my personal opinion.

Literature and music. I like to read or listen to things and use my imagination, while in art half the work has already been done for me. That's why I prefer impressionist art, surrealist art and abstract art so you can stare at a painting for hours and try to figure out what the artist tries to convey with their work.
Anyway, I vote literature because reading a good, well-written narrative, full of metaphors and beautifully-organized sentenses, gives me a feeling of immense pleasure that sometimes borders on ecstasy.

I spend most of my free time listening music. So music is my choice. I like literature as well. I even try to write a book. But I'm such a lazybones... :x Arts is something not so great for me, but I'm not against it and I feel for most of it.

This is very tough but i would have to choose literature

For good literature is itself an art, and the words in literature provide a song so sweet in your head it makes you go dizzy in imagination

Honestly it would be a crime to raise one higher than the other for they all compliment each other and inspire the other to greater heights

:)
