Only FOUR more days until NaNo begins! Who's still on board? I've been plotting away and deepening characters, my magic system, world/setting, etc. I'm stoked about this. :D

My story idea has been one I've worked on for a year or two, so the general concept is more or less done. Most of the major characters have been fleshed out enough for me to get started (though last night I did get a sudden idea where I switched two characters around personality and role-wise), and the setting is my own personal conworld I've had for years (so no troubles there), and while the plot is a bit flimsier than I wanted since this time is *sort of* an Indiana Jones-esque adventure + simple binary politics (not too dissimilar from Skyrim's civil war) sort of thing I don't need to be as worked up about plot as I would for a more complicated story.

My issue is that I should not have procrastinated so much, given I need to do a [&@%!] of research on the Trans-Siberian railway and the late 19th century.

Plus you all sound like you've planned so well. :c

Uh...I haven't planned THAT much. I know the middle of my story better than the beginning. I best figure out how to start the damn thing or I'll be in a world of hurt come Nov 1.

My body is ready, but my mind is not..

My story will probably suck, and will read like watching Dragon Ball Z.

In my case I've been planning for 1-2 years so it was only a matter of time. Even then I'm still unsure about certain aspects, and in contras to Dohvakiin2012 I have the beginning and end vaguely set up but the middle is a big nebulous empty blob.

I am still thinking about it. Have been all month. Want to, think I will, but I never have luck when I outright declare that I'm going to do a thing (it's like I curse myself into not doing it somehow when I say I will :( )

That's what I'll probably do. I have so many stories waiting for their turn, but they always make me end up putting off my dream-story. I'll give that a shot. I think my problem will be the motivation to keep going, although knowing that someone else (you guys) know that I'm at it may be the kick in the ass that I need.

That's what so great about this challenge, its that at least it will get you started. And we can all come here for support and post our word counts. The things to remember if you're serious about doing this:

-it CAN be done.
-set up a schedule to write daily so you don't fall behind.
-honor your schedule
-be patient and easy with yourself
-let the words flow and don't worry about making anything sound pretty
-have fun!

Um...I don't think that's part of it. The focus is to finish the manuscript/story...although if some are wanting to share their work here I don't see why that would be a problem. Although I think getting feedback from others while your story is progressing can throw you off track.

Conworld = Constructed world, just like conlangs.
So, a world built for a story, or a world just built to be built.

In that case, yes, the world in my book is an originally constructed one. :p

I created my own world. Its a northern land based off Slavic, Cree, and Chukchi cultures. Its heavily magical. And it took me 10 months to craft.

Ten months, that's impressive. My story is going to be a weird arse trancic magical high fantasy story, focusing on an older Warlock.

It doesn't take too long to make a conworld, in my opinion, but it's harder to maintain it and continually improve on it. My conworld has been going through so many changes and improvements and deepening through the years. Heh, I thought I more or less had everything when my first "draft" of it was finished in in ninth grade (and even that was built off of scraps of ideas from middle school). How wrong I was. How wrong I was.

Wait, so, how exactly does NaNo log your word count?
I see it has stats on here but there doesn't seem to be any way to "submit" anything once we start.

I have no idea. I've never done this before. I'll play with it and see if I can figure it out. I think we keep track of our own word count and then log into it and post it daily. Just a guess at this point.

That would allow miscalculations and cheating though... I think they'd have more of a failsafe system than that.
