Do you play SoulSilver or HeartGold?
Also, how did you get Gengar? You have to trade a Haunter to make it Evolve, right?

Secondly: You have Gold! Awesome.

A couple of friends and I are now planning on having a Pokemon party. We're gonna each start a new file on our first gen games, choose s different starter and make a themed team. My team is "normal types mostly and no evolutions".

Ultra, I'm not going to waste a master ball.

Also, Dogmantra, good luck with that. It's impossible. :s (Snorlax is going to be the only good one.)

I'm in Kanto ATM, but I'm too lazy to post my team. But I did retire Emma for Snorlax.

Oh, and did I mention I'm not taking anything outside the first 24 weakest ones in terms of base stats?

THAT IS WHEN I FIND THE BLASTED THING.

Here, have a link to a list of Pokémon, sorted by their stats.

I'm currently trying to catch a Larvitar at the Safari Zone, but they seem afraid of me.

HeartGold or SoulSilver?

My choice is mainly based on the version exclusives.

Scroll down a bit to find a list of version-exclusives. If something is listed under one game, then you can only get it in that game.

Can I catch Lugia if I have HeartGold, and Ho-Oh if I have SoulSilver?

The Bulbapedia says that they're available in both games, as long as I go to the Whirl Islands/Bell Tower, carrying a Silver/Rainbow Wing...

Is this true? Can anyone confirm?

CAN YOU CATCH BOTH HO-OH and LUGIA IN EITHER GAME?

You can, once you get to Kanto.

Poke-Update!

Just OHKO'd Lance's entire team in the re-match. Very satisfying. (I had to try twice, the first I totally underestimated his team in the re-match with my whole team that was below lv. 70)

I dropped Snorlax entirely and replaced him with Raikou, I think. I made several modifications. The only pokemon still in from the last update is my starter, Typhlosion. I got all 16 badges, and my sights are on Red now. Gengar was replaced with Scizor. I traded a Garchomp over from my Platinum (It was around level 70 at the time) and removed Lugia. I also replaced Gyarados with Mewtwo which I caught after I lost to Lance the first time in the re-match.

Update:

  • Mewtwo (lv. 79)
    • Psycho Cut
    • Psychic
    • Ice Beam
    • Calm Mind
      • Very useful. It has great stats, but I had to correct a few things.
  • Typhlosion (Lv. 76)
    • Eruption
    • Flamethrower
    • Swift
    • Heat Wave (Move Tutor)
      • Typhlosion is helpful when it comes to mopping up Pokemon that my primary Pokemon in the battle can't. Eruption is very nice, Heat Wave is good, and Flamethrower is good as a fall back. Swift is there just in case someone spams double-team.
  • Garchomp (lv. 76)
    • Swords Dance
    • Outrage
    • Earthquake
    • Dragon Claw
      • Garchomp is around to help me deal with electric, fire, and dragon types. (Who new that Dragon is weak against Dragon?) Garchomp's ground-type-ness will probably help against Red's Pikachu.
  • Raikou (lv. 77)
    • Thunder
    • Psychic
    • Thunderbolt
    • Extrasensory
      • Every team needs a Pokemon with a good electric type move. Raikou does the trick here, and with his high Sp. Atk stat, Psychic and Extrasensory make him my default Psychic pokemon. (Even though he's just Electric.)
  • Scizor (lv. 76)
    • Iron Head
    • Night Slash
    • Poison Jab
    • X-Scissor
      • I love Scizor. He has a killer Attack stat. (At level 76 he has 226) This makes his moves deadly. With the wide array of moves he knows, he can dispose some nasty Pokemon. Psychic mainly. Surprisingly, bug types become useful later on in the game. (As does Rock. Seriously.)
  • Dragonite (Lv. 77)
    • Fly
    • Dragon Dance
    • Outrage
    • Dragon Claw
      • What can I say? Dragonite is pretty good. He has a higher attack stat than Scizor (at 259), making him deadly. Dragon Dance only throws salt in an already very large, gaping wound. Very anti-dragon.

Now to train a bit, and decimate Red.

I've started a save on Pokémon Red, and I have decided to name my Pokémen after some UESP members.

Josjie (Charmander) - 'cause he's so hot
Dogmantra (Rattata) - 'cause he's da Man Rat God
Kestral (Spearow) - 'cause Kestral smells, and because he's a little bird. With small fists.

that is the current team, since I haven't really found other likeable Pokémen.

I do plan on catching a Mankey, which I'm going to name 'r', because evetone knows that r is eveyones favourite little monkey.

I'll let you know how o'm doing in a couple of hours.

Also, this post was written on an iPod, so that explains the typo's...most of them anyway.

I just got SoulSilver, because Lee's brother bought both and started playing on SoulSilver, Lee had to use HeartGold, so I got SoulSilver so that we could trade exclusives.
But Lee says he preferred Silver originally and I wanted Heart Gold. (we would swap, but it's still technically Shaun's game, so it's not up to Lee)
But it's still an AWESOME game.

I'm only catching 1st Gen Pokemon. They were, after all, the best. The only problem will be finding them all :/
I would like to have a team of Eevees though (but only the first 3 "Eevolutions") and like, 2 Dittos to learn all the HMs.
I've been catching a male and female of every 1st gen I come across, but I only just got my 2nd badge so I'm not too far.

I just completely annihilated the Elite Four with my Typhlosion, Gyarados, and Lugia. Unfortunately, I'm going to need to level up my Pupitar if I want to beat Lt. Surge.

Or catch a diglett which are so conveniently placed not to far from it. (Radio -> PokeFlute to get the Snorlax outta the way.)

Today was the worst day ever.

I caught a Ditto that I had been running up and down the grass for like 2 hours to find, then got my 3rd gym badge (which was really hard and the stupid miltank killed me like 3 times before because I only have 2 level 22 pidgeottos and all my other pokemon are like, level 10 and lower)

THEN...

My DS died!! I didn't even notice that it was red!!! I put me right off playing, atleast for a few days anyway.
