In the year 2180, a young scientist named William Ivanovich thought that robots that could think for themselves would be a good invention. So, naturally, he worked with some other scientists to develop these robots. After a few years of trial and error, it was finally done. It was announced on news across the world, and soon after, he and the other scientists formed the IRPMC, or the International Robot Programming and Manufacturing Corporation. They started manufacturing robots for commercial and residential use. These robots, named the G-10 series of robots, had steel armor plating, two ultrasonic sensors as eyes, a wrist-mounted machine gun, and even a mouth. These robots made good guards for various things (a home, a bank vault, government headquarters, etc.) Most people were happy with these robots, although there was a small group of people who did not fully trust the robots.

Then, three years later, the G-20 series was released. This meant that for double the price of a G-10 (they were still in production), you could have a laser autorifle on the arm rather than a standard machine gun, stronger armor, more sophisticated programming (which includes combat training), and superior speed. The G-20 soon found its way into the homes of millions of people around the world. Most were given commercial guard positions and home servants.

Suddenly, news of a shocking murder found its way across the world. It was not of William Ivanovich or any of his fellow scientists that made the robots. In fact, John Howard, 48 years old and resident of Great Britain, was killed. However, it was not who was murdered that was shocking. The shocking part was the murderer. John had bought a G-20 droid, yet surprisingly, the G-20 was not able to repel the murderer. Why? The autopsy found small burn marks on John. They looked identical to those found on a person killed by a G-20's laser rifle, which could only mean one thing: John's own G-20 had killed him.

A week later, a similar murder popped up, but this time it was of Li Chang, 72, resident of China. Soon, murders popped up all over the world that were by robots. The IRPMC put a recall of all robots (G-10s and G-20s) into effect. All robots eventually found their way back into IRPMC hands in about two weeks. Not too much later, the IRPMC started releasing robot armies to invade the US. Why did these robots rebel? People started to think if the IRPMC had planned this all along, and in doing so, they would be right.

Meanwhile, the people who had not owned robots formed a secret society so that they could create an army to fight the robots. They were able to amass an army to fight the mechanical invasion. Now, 35 years after the robots were first being worked on, these rebels, named Carpe Terra, (thanks, Ace!) have decided to finally attack the robots.

___/¯¯¯\___/¯¯¯\___/¯¯¯\___

Application Form: (And by the way, yes, you have to be a human rebel)

Character name:
Appearance:
Primary weapon: (basically anything but a sub-machine gun or pistol; you can use laser and plasma weapons; I may ask you to change your primary weapon if I think it'll cause issues)
Secondary weapon: (SMGs, pistols, and the like)
Melee weapon:
Other equipment: (stuff like body armor, explosive charges, first-aid kits, etc.)
Alternate skill: (computer hacking, lockpicking, your character is really strong, etc.)
Short history:

___/¯¯¯\___/¯¯¯\___/¯¯¯\___

How it will work:

Outside of battle, after each post, you will usually have two to four options you can take. Here's a sample post:

The example wrote:
You find a small, yet boarded up building. You can hear noises from inside it. You can:

» Break the door down and raid the place
» Try to figure out what the noises are
» Knock on the door
» Ignore it and continue on your way

Once everyone has reached a general consensus on what to do, I'll continue with another post following from your choice, and it'll include another choice.

Battles will be set up like this:

The combat template wrote:
__________________
Level 2 Ivan Peterson (79/150) <boosted accuracy -- 3 turns left>
Level 2 John Smith (105/125)

VS

Level 1 G-10 (31/100) <stun -- 1 turn left>
Level 1 G-20 (93/150)
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

When in combat, you can attack once between each of my posts with whatever armaments you're carrying with you at the time. If you post multiple attacks, I will use the most recent one you posted. Once everyone has given an attack, I will post a description of the combat round, along with links to the die-roller site that I used for the data. After the description will be the combat template shown above.

___/¯¯¯\___/¯¯¯\___/¯¯¯\___

How combat works:

Each character and enemy has a dodge chance, which is a fixed value. To hit someone, you need to roll higher than their dodge chance on a to hit roll. If the attack connects, then another die is rolled, this time determining how much damage the attack did. Bonuses to accuracy give modifiers to the to hit roll, while bonuses to dodge chance modify how high the enemy's to hit roll must be to hit you.

Example: My weapon has 2d6 to hit and 1d10 damage. My enemy has a dodge chance of 8. To hit my enemy, I need a to hit roll of 9 or higher. If I hit, then I roll a d10 to determine how much damage I did to the enemy.

Critical hits:
If the accuracy check is one of the two highest results possible with the given dice, then you score a critical hit. Damage equal to double the maximum amount for your weapon is automatically inflicted. Bonuses to this modify the range needed for a critical hit.

Example: My weapon has 2d6 to hit and 1d10 damage. If I get an 11 or 12 to hit, then I score a critical hit and instantly do 20 damage instead of the normal 10. If, however, I had a 50% boost to critical hits, then I would get one on a to hit roll of 10, 11, or 12.

___/¯¯¯\___/¯¯¯\___/¯¯¯\___

Thread rules:

1. Out-of-character text must be written in blue. I don't want to see posts written entirely in blue.
2. Dialogue must be written in red.
3. I will write official GM stuff (like whether or not a character is approved) in green. Only I am allowed to use green text.
4. Don't post an application unless you're going to play. (This forum isn't so bad about it, but I've been on others where, of 100 applications, I only got about 15 to play.) If you're going to be away from your computer for an extended length of time, then PM me.
5. When you post an application, delete everything in parenthesis.
6. Just to clarify, this will be a "serious" role-play.
7. Put "banana" somewhere in your application post so I know you read the rules.

___/¯¯¯\___/¯¯¯\___/¯¯¯\___

Players:

Mike "Cruncher" Bitzer (Sonixboom)
Garrett "Gary" Duklip (ace62394)
James Carsae (randomfrog)
Malivia T. (Vivec's Tears)

Accepted.

Also, I need a name for the rebels, not the robots.

We'll start when we have three people. Everyone is going to be part of a spec-ops team that won't see much front-line combat.

So is the combat sort of like Pokemon?

Character name: Garrett "Gary" Duklip
Appearance: In his 40s. Brown hair and eyes. Wears black camouflage at all times.
Primary weapon: Concentrated laser beam rifle (long-range rifle; in combat, Gary will be at a long range)
Secondary weapon: SIG Sauer
Melee weapon: A Kukri
Other equipment: Healing foam, used for sealing laser injuries (Will heal %80 of health if it is a wound from a laser, but only %30 if it's something else)
Alternate skill: Fast reflexes, very accurate
Short history: Gary grew up in Vancouver. His father was part of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and Gary wanted to be just like him. But he moved to the USA and trained to be in the SWAT, instead. He left the SWAT at about the same time the G-10 was released, and made a living as one of the few human bodyguards in business. Sometimes, his contract was canceled, since the VIP saw robots as a better choice. This is why Gary hates robots. He hopes he will have the pleasure of killing whoever started this :Twisted Evil:

Character Name: James Carsae
Appearance: 19 years of age. Straight black hair. Blue eyes. Wears slim/skinny jeans and graphic tees.
Primary Weapon: High Energy Laser Sub machine gun
Secondary Weapon: High Energy Laser Pistol
Melee Weapon: Skateboard/Tazer, depending on which he has with him.
Other Equipment: Sound Grenades, these emit sounds too high for the human ear, but they short circuit the robots.
Alternate Skill: Very nimble, quick wits, sneaking

Character name: Malivia T.

Appearance: 5'9, black hair, grey eyes, 20 years old, Caucasian.

Primary Weapon: Mk.13 Sniper Rifle

Secondary Weapon: 9mm semi-automatic handgun

Melee weapon: Small mace, sharp, hidden in coat

I updated the first post with info on the combat system.

Randomfrog, I've decided to let you have both a skateboard and a tazer. The skateboard is more accurate, but the tazer has a chance to stun.

And now...

After the initial invasion of the US, Carpe Terra set up hundreds of bases around the country. Most of them were hidden either in places nobody would look, such as the middle of the desert, or under various abandoned civilian buildings. Hiding the bases was of utmost importance, because when a base is detected by the robots, that base has about two hours before its annihilation from the robots. This particular base happened to be underneath an old mechanic shop that was just outside of Chicago.

Cruncher, Gary, James, and Malivia sat around in the base that felt more like an outpost. (picture) They were Team Gamma, the only spec-ops team in the base. Their past assignments had consisted mostly of taking out robot production facilities and sabotaging the robots' efforts to launch massive attacks on Carpe Terra's massive and well defended main base, which was near Madison, WI.

Just then, someone said, Team Gamma, report to headquarters for debriefing on your next assignment. I repeat, Team Gamma, report to headquarters, over the intercom. You can:

» Go to the control room
» Ignore it and go back to what you were doing

Gamma Team, I SAID report to the control room! That's an order!

Do you:

» Go down to the control room for debriefing
» Continue to ignore it and play cards

I'm sure you four don't want to be court martialed, right?

The four members of Gamma Team walked into the control room, ready for their next assignment. They saluted the commanding officer, Lt. John Andersen. He immediately began the debriefing.

All right, Gamma Team. The robots have set up a scanning outpost about one klick northwest of here in the hopes that they'll find us. We can keep hidden from their 20th century scanning equipment, but we need you four to take it out before it causes us any trouble. Understood?

You can:

» Accept the mission
» Decline the mission
