Cruncher was first. He walked up and swung his fist at the first robot. The attack connected (10 vs 5 dodge chance), although the bot was able to shrug off most of the impact. It took 1 damage. Shortly afterward, Gary fired at the other bot. It was hit in the shoulder, dealing 7 damage to it. Next up was James. He fired at one of the robots, but his aim was off by a few inches. (3) Malivia followed with a shot from her sniper rifle, but it also missed.

The robots, having only just noticed the attack, were too surprised to do anything.

Dang it! Missed! Well, good robot sir, your existence is at an end. Exclaimed James as he took aim at robot number 01 with his laser pistol.

Moved at the last second Gary thought, as he took aim at the robot again.

New rule: For the second round of a battle and beyond, only three attacks are required for the next round. The person who didn't post a new attack will simply use whatever they did last turn.

Of course, if there are four attacks, that's perfectly fine.

Cruncher stepped back and drew the P90 on his back. He took aim... fired... and hit the robot in the head. Several times, in fact. (10) This caused massive damage to it. (critical hit -- automatic 24 damage)

Gary reloaded his laser rifle and shot at the other robot again. His aim was true, striking it in the neck for 13 damage.

James pulled out his sidearm. Of his two shots, only one of them hit, doing 4 damage.

Malivia's single shot was last. It hit the second robot in its arm, doing 4 damage.

The robot with more extensive damage attacked for the first time. It fired its machine gun at Gary, who nimbly dodged the attack.

The second robot used its built-in scanner to attempt to find weaknesses in Cruncher's armor. It found none. (1; needs 2 to succeed)

Whoa! Nearly got me in the arm! said Gary, changing his aim towards the bot who fired at him.

Malivia ducked down for a breather, and popped back up, glancing for more robots.

Cruncher fired again. The robot he fired at desperately tried to dodge the hail of bullets sent at it, and it succeeded, but narrowly.

Gary changed his aim to the more damaged bot. His laser pierced the attacker's arm, doing 6 damage. (to hit = 8)

James fired his laser pistol twice more. His aim was off for the first shot, and the robot leaped out of the way of the second. (roll = 4)

Malivia rested for a few seconds, then fired. Sure enough, the shot pierced the robot through its head. It fell over, destroyed. (7 -- critical hit -- 32 damage)

The surviving robot ran up and swung its fist at James, who was unable to dodge quickly enough. He took 3 damage. (to hit = 16)

Nice shot, Mally! Gary shouted out, moving up towards the robot and taking cover. When he got to where he wanted, he pulled out his SIG Sauer and took aim at the bot.

Just a quick question, do we have infinite ammo?

Everyone has unlimited ammo for everything except James's sonic grenades, which can only be used twice per battle.

Plus, for this mission, everyone has three explosive charges. But I would recommend you use them on bigger targets, which you will encounter. ;)

Hmm... I didn't know that. I'll have to change the accuracy on it from 1d8 to 2d6.

I changed the overcharge accuracy, not the accuracy of a normal shot.

Cuncher put away his P90 and got out a modified fusion pistol. He moved the overcharge switch into place, and waited five seconds. He took aim, then released the blast. The massive burst of energy collided with the remaining robot. The energy was absorbed into the mechanoid, then sparks started flying from the holes in its head, the scorched hole in its arm, and the holes in its torso, and it started seizing up. Shortly afterward, the main power core in its chest exploded, splitting the robot in two pieces. The head, shoulders, and arms flew into the air and landed against the rocky ground with a thunk and the hips and legs simply fell over. (to hit = 7; damage = 18)

Victory!

Everyone gained 30 XP.

Now that the rush of combat was over, the team got a good look at the base. There was a 5-foot radar dish on top, as well as a sonar beacon. The base itself was a single, very small building, like most of the base was underground.

The area outside the base is now clear. You can:

» Search the area
» Enter the base

Last time I checked, it didn't work like that. Everyone who was in the battle (even if for just one round) gets the same amount of experience.

And if I'm using the same combat system, I might as well borrow the XP system, too.

On the generation III games (R/S/E, FR/LG; all for the GBA), it works exactly how I described above.
