"The Jarl of What?" the guard asked, eyes narrowed.

"One cannot be too careful. No one in the employ of Nords are fully trustworthy," the guard sneered. "Go inside. Speak with our Queen. If you dare. She's in the keep."

Nimalten - Outside the Jarl's Longhouse

The guard nodded, "Ahh, well, the Jarl is indeed held up at this moment, but I think the Jarl's wife may be able to conduct with you, will you be coming with me, I believe she is in the guards quarters down the street from here, inspecting the men, she is called Aeta".

Spoiler:
"Inspecting" :wink:

"The envoy of the Queen does not wish to be held up with some mere second in command," the envoy jeered, as if hoping to achieve something with it.

"Thank you." The Breton bowed and walked through the city and into Understone Keep.

Markarth

Iaestra looked up when the Whiterun envoy entered.

"Excuse me for a moment, dear countrywoman," she whispered to Bradenach. "I need to be me again."

She turned towards the incoming diplomat.

"Who dares to intrude upon my perimeter?" she said in a quite accusatory tone.

"I do. Alenach Isorf, a Breton and bron here. In Markarth. My family moved to Whiterun and I now serve the Jarl as an envoy. I am humbled to be allowed into this city again." Said the envoy.

Nimalten - Jarls Row
Spoiler:
Yes I know what that sounds like

The guard scoffed at the reachman's comment, "A mere second in command? I swear she is more demanding than the Jarl, you would think she was the Jarl if it wasn't for Belvyn's constant working, but please come with me, she should be delighted to see you, although I know she doesn't like being interrupted when she is doing her rounds".

The guard and the reachman walked further down Jarls Row before they reached the guardhouse, "Here it is, come on then", the guard barged through the door and inside there was Aeta White-Mane holding a young guardsmen's axe, "You call this sharp! I've seen orc's with sharper tongues than this, sharpen it some more, then maybe you will be ready to fight", she turned around and looked at the guard and the Reachman, "And what is the meaning of this interruption, can't you see I am on my rounds guardsmen, and who is this?".

The guardsmen stuttered for a bit before talking, "He is an envoy from Iaestra Bloodheart, his name is Boraig".

Aeta shrugged, "Ah, well then, an envoy from such an esteemed Jarl, should be properly looked after, please...", she struggled to remember the envoy's name as she tried to sound accomadating to the envoy, "Please, Boraig, come with me, we shall walk through the streets as we discuss what you came here for".

"Queen," Boraig compulsively corrected. "Nevermind. Lead the way, ma'm."

Markarth

"How long time is it since your family left my City?" Iaestra inquired.

"Hmmm... I am but 40 so... Around thirty years ago. I still remember this vibrant city." He smiled, glancing around the room. "But, we must get down to business. My Jarl is requesting an alliance with you. And in return you will be allowed to move around the hold freely."

Markarth

"Before my time, then... Good. The only people that have left Markarth for the last five years is people who don't want the Reach independent. Only those willing to leave, of course. if they didn't, we found other uses for them..." Iaestra said, combing her fingers through her hair. They came out specked with a red fluid.

"And you wish an alliance? You have to make better offers than that. If I really wanted to, I'd just wander right through your land."

"Well, I'm sure someone as... noble as yourself doesn't want to be held up by a bunch of Nordic guards. The shame." He said jokingly. "But I'm sure my Jarl could offer more than that. He prefers for the other Jarls to ask him."

"Then let them ask him. One accomplishes nothing by sitting idly. He'd be wise to actually act. And perhaps to actually mention to those he send that I am not a mere Jarl," Iaestra said, glaring daggers at Alenach. "Or perhaps you have an unspoken death wish?"

Iastra smiled, baring her teeth.

"If you don't bring more to the table, the Reach will only agree not to incite any aggression with Whiterun."

Spoiler:
Iaestra's an animal, I tell you! An animal!

Nimalten - Jarls Row

Aeta looked at the envoy as the two walked down the street in Nimalten which housed everything that was important in Nimalten, they walked past the large guardshouse, then the Jarl's Longhouse, then they passed the large Museum of the Pae, the finally they ended up at Belvyn's Spire, it was a large tower which had a spiral staircase, which allowed citizens to easily move from Jarls Row to the Market District.

"So what is it, the 'Queen in Rags' wants to offer, please here in the court of the Pale we are eager to start diplomacy, especially with a Hold with such honour and valiance as the Reach?".

"My Queen has sent me with an offer of peace, if not alliance. She offers at the very least an agreement in which both nations agree not to attack each other, if you will not agree to an alliance between our holds," the envoy told Aeta.

Nimalten - Jarl's Study

"Ahhh, Res Dayn of Eastmarch, what does your Jarl wish to discuss with me then", the Jalr pulled out a small journal and started jotting down in it, before looking back up at Res.

Nimalten - Market

"Hmmm", Aeta was thinking, "I am going to immediately agree to the non-aggresion pact, they always come in handy in tight spots, but for the alliance, I shall only agree to it, if your Hold in-turn starts trading it's valuable silver resources to us, for payment, we shall deliver lumber from our esteemed lumber mills in Riverwood, if you agree, this should probably be the beginning of a long and valued relationship".

Nimalten - Jarl's Study
"My Jarl has thought of making a peace treaty or a military alliance, if you agree to them. I have brought a gift." The courier took a
emerald amulet with a glow on it. "This is an Amulet of Shielding. It has a Shield effect on it, and protects you from physical attacks. I hope you will consider the treaty or military alliance, Your Highness." The courier said.

"Lumber for silver?" the Reachman asked. "That hardly seems fair, does it?"

Nimalten - Market District

"You may think it unfair, but from what I know the Reach does not have many trees to harvest, what without it's rocky landscape, and my Hold is rather devoid of any metals other than iron, I should also mention that my Hold will openly support your Hold's bid for indepence from Skyrim", Aeta stopped at looked at the Reachmen in the eyes.

Nimalten - Jarl's Study

Belvyn held the amulet then placed it down onto the table, "This is nice, but I hope you understand that this should not blow the diplomacy in your direction", the Jarl looked at the amulet again, then back to Res, "Well, I would happily accept an alliance with the former capital of Skyrim, and what your Jarl has done for my people in your Hold is admirable, I can agree with that, but on one condition, most people know that my lumber is valuable bargaining chip, so, would you accept lumber from our esteemed trees, in turn your Jarl, could give us a fresh water port on the River White, although it runs through our Hold, the rapids prevent us from utilising it, thus the large and open waters further down the river would be perfect for a port".

"That sounds more interesting, that last one," Boraig said. "But perhaps you'd like to know that we simply use stone in Markarth."

He hesitated for a moment.

"But fine. We have an agreement. If your Hold ceases any support to anti-Reach sentiments, we have a deal on your terms. I'll have to ask my Queen for confirmation, but I doubt she will be disappointed. Or at least, I hope so. I don't wan to end up as hair dye."

"Well, wood can be used for other things than building, arrows for example, but anyway, thank you for agreeing with my offer, although I will have to mention, that our Hold has never been against or for the Reach's independence", Aeta sighed, "But, I can see why you think that".

Jarl Bethany rose from her throne upon reading Jarl Idolaf's letter. "Prepare a carriage to Whiterun." She announced.

"My lady," Argued Donner, her housecarl. "You are taking a great risk by leaving for Whiterun."

"I must go. This deal I am making is very important to Winterhold's future endeavors. I must oversee it personally."

One short carriage ride later, Bethany arrived in Whiterun with a small entourage of her husband Astigar, her steward and brother, Thorold, her housecarl Donner, and a diplomat and Thane to Winterhold, Morvar, who also happened to be Astigar's brother.

Bethany approached the castle with her four companions behind her. "I have an audience with the Jarl." She announced.
