Lord of the Rings: War in the North

Middle Earth is in turmoil. To the south, the Ringbearer and his faithful companion trek towards Mount Doom, while Aragorn, son of Arathorn, the elf Legolas, and the dwarf Gimli rally the forces of man and elf to stand against the armies of Sauron and Saruman combined. But what of the north? A tale yet untold, of heroes defending the green hills of the Shire and cold mountains against the rising threat.

Elf
+2 Dex, +2 Int

Spoiler:
Lore-masters are skilled healers and practitioner of arts that the unknowing would mistakenly call magic. In actuality, their powers and abilities stem from a keen understanding of the world and the powers that shape it. All lore-masters are allowed a book of knowledge, with a number of pages equal to half of their intelligence (rounding down). Novice spells take up one page, Adept spells three pages, and Master spells five. Particularly resourceful bards are also capable of achieving something tantamount to the lore-master's knowledge of healing, but their book of knowledge is equal to a quarter of their intelligence, again rounding down.

Healing (Novice)
Close Wounds (Adept)
Grand Healing (Master)

Cha: 14
Fighting Style: Sword-and-Shield, Marksman
Skills: Athletics, History, Perception, Nature

Background: Inzi is the daughter of a wealthy noble in the Black Numenorean stronghold of Umbar, the home of the fleets of Corsairs that assail Gondor in the south. She fled North, as her family faced prosecution for opposing alliance with Sauron and his hordes of Orcs and, in her eyes, uncivilized eastern barbarians. She has made it her goal to fight Sauron's evil in any way she can after her family was butchered. Nevertheless, despite the involuntary exile she faced at the hands of her fellows, she loves her culture and her nation, and believes that it can be great once more... And, perhaps, even be good.

Mars
Name: Ránen Erinqua (Lone wanderer, in Quenya)
Race: Silvan (Wood-elf)
Gender: M
Class: Rogue
Attributes:
Str: 14
Con: 15
Dex: 22
Wis: 15
Int: 18
Cha: 10
Fighting style:He uses a light, elven long bow and a self made short bow, preferring to snipe from cover. The short bow has blades attached to both ends, for a quick defence. He has a large quiver of elven arrows that he only uses for "important" shots, otherwise he he makes his own, of lesser quality (lack of materials). He also uses a short, elven blade for various things as well as close combat during which he prefers to dance around, parrying and dodging to wear the foe out before striking.
Skills: Acrobatics, Nature, Stealth, Perception
Weapons: See fighting style.
Spells: None
Personality: His life has given him a few quirks that one might not expect from an elf. He is often sarcastic and even a bit arrogant, though pleasant with persons whose company he enjoys. He also becomes quiet and distant from time to time, at which point he is prone to anger, if disturbed repeatedly. He is also overly violent in combat for an Elf.
Backstory: A descendant of Thranduil, he was once a prince in Mirkwood. He tells little of himself, but it is obvious that something dark happened in his past, something that drove him away of his people. He has been wandering the woods alone for quite some time. If spied on while in solitude, he can often be seen taking out an amulet from beneath his garb, looking at it intently. What this means is known to none of his companions, though it seems to be a link to his shrouded past.
Appearance: A long, slim face, gifted with the natural beauty of the elves. His nose is slightly crooked (really, really slightly) and his lips thin. His hair is of a dark brown colour, falling just above the elbows in the back, and shoulder length in the front. He keeps his face free by tieing the hair at the front of his head together in the back. Height 5"9, Weight 152 llbs
Clothing and Armour: A simple, dark green travelling cloak over mithril chainmail and greaves, tall black leather boots. He also sometimes wears a set of leather gloves (when climbing or in cold places).

mr cowbell2
Name: Klyde Hemmingmore
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Class: Rogue
Attributes:
Str: 15
Con:15
Dex: 22
Wis:14
Int:14
Cha: 12
Fighting Style: Shooting targets from a long distance, almost never comes within a close-distance of his enemies.
Skills: Stealth, Nature, Acrobatics, and Perception
Weapons: A longbow, with a small dagger that hardly leaves his belt
Spells: N/A
Personality: Straightforward and serious. Only time he really talks is about relevant business and to loved ones (which are limited to his daughter). He normally works alone, but has been reported to have worked in small teams. He doesn't hesitate to kill. He has a strange hatred for mages, but works with them if he must. He has a tendency to hold deep grudges.

Background (detailed, please): Born into a very large rich family, he grew up in Dale with 11 siblings. Being the third oldest, he had to frequently watch after the rest. At the age of 14, he accidentally killed his first victim by choking a burglar, who was breaking into their house, to death. His parents didn't know whether to thank him or punish him, so they just ignored the crime. Later when he tuned 16, his father took him hunting the local game for the first time. His father gave him a very well made bow, of which he shot 2 large deer. His dad noticed a very sharp sense in his child that could only be described as 'predator'. After this day, his father feared his son and never took him hunting again. At his 17th birthday, he was outraged when henasked to go hunting again and his father declined. Klyde ran away from Dale and made his dwelling in the outskirts of Rohan. He never saw his family again.

The next chapter of his life began. He was living by himself until he reached the age of 25 when he met a huntress, named Mary, in a pub located in Rohan. She decided to live with him and raise a child with him. Klyde, bing upset that the child was female, decided to raise the child as if she was male. 12 years later, he and his daughter, Eolynn, were out hunting when a band or Mordor orcs ransacked their camp and killed Mary. The two tracked the band down and watched from afar. They prepared their bows and took down them all before the last one could figure out what was happening.

2 years later, they parted ways, Eolynn living in the same area, and Klyde moving to fight in the North against the Orcs. He's 39 years old but still retains his youth and cunning, but still cannot hold back his hatred for the Orcs. That will likely never cease.

The Rules
It's pretty simple. One character per person, good grammar, no Gary Sues or Mary Sues, and listen to the DM. And have fun!

Okay, here goes:

Name: Simon Lane.
Race: Dwarf. (Come on, this is me we're talking about. What else am I gonna go for?)
Gender: Male.
Class: Warrior (traditional dwarf-style).
Str: 20
Con: 20
Dex: 16
Wis: 12
Int: 13
Cha: 13
Fighting Style (One melee, one ranged): Melee: Waraxe/Shield. Ranged: Not much use, but is a limited crossbow marksman on an open field.
Skills: Dungeoneering, History, Athletics and Heal.
Weapons: Waraxe/Sheild, and a crossbow.
Spells: N/A.
Personality (detailed, please): A rowdy, but clever, dwarf, he is always the first to jump into the fight. A warrior first and foremost, he sees it as his duty to be on the battlefield defending his home. The loss of his father to the orcs many years ago fuels his hatred of them, and drives him to fight them until they are extinct or he falls.
Background (detailed, please): A dwarven warrior by birth, he was trained to fight orcs from an early age. As a dwarf, he learned to easily navigate mountain paths where men would fail, and fought many orcs in defense of his homeland. Now he is drawn to the conflicts in the far north, to aid however he can.

Re: Lord of the Rings: The War in the North

Sun May 06, 2012 3:19 pm

Fighting Style gives you a choice of fighting styles for your class. For example, the Warrior fighting styles are Dual-Wielding, Sword and Shield, Two-Handed, and Marksman. So you can pick one of Dual-Wielding, Sword and Shield, and Two-Handed, and you automatically take Marksman.

To clarify on skills, you are allowed the number of skills indicated by your class, plus the inherently trained skills of your race. So Gandalf's dwarf warrior is allowed four skills, but two of them are going to be Dungeoneering and History. You can then choose from Athletics, Heal, and Speechcraft for your other two.

A dwarf named Simon and a Hobbit named Filbo Baggins. You're gonna make your poor Gideon shoot himself!

Gid, I think I'll wait for a few more people to join and balance out the races and sexes as best as I can.

Re: Lord of the Rings: The War in the North

Sun May 06, 2012 3:23 pm

Oh, I've put Dungeoneering as one of my main skills. Hang on, I'll edit it.

Re: Lord of the Rings: The War in the North

They all count as skills equally, so be sure to include your racial skills as well.

Cool. Take your time.

I think I'll join this; I want to make an easygoing, wisecracking bard character. In other words, the polar opposite of Gradnar. Character sheet'll be up in a bit.

Pedanticism:

Magic as you describe it isn't lore-consistent.

Questions:

Do you have a storyline in mind, will we travel, or will it just be fight orcs, character interraction, fight more orcs?
