Welcome one and all to the Competition of the Month!

These monthly competitions are a chance for you to demonstrate your creativity and talents while getting a chance to know your fellow members and have a little fun. Each month is going to have a different theme and a different talent – and maybe a surprise or two!

The basic rules are as follows:

» Members can contribute pieces based on the talent (writing, art, screenshots, etc.) and theme during the submission period, after which no further entries will be accepted. Then we will vote via a poll to see who gets to wear that month’s winner’s badge!

» If you are posting artwork, please post a link from an off-forum website such as Photobucket; if you are posting a written piece, please hide it under a spoiler when creating a new post. This is to ensure that posts are not too long and the thread appears orderly for everyone. If you are unsure how to do either of these, don’t be afraid to ask!

» Be respectful and polite about your fellow members’ work. Anyone who says anything rude about another’s work will be hearing from a member of the Mod Squad and may not be allowed to participate in the next competition. There is no such thing as “good” or “bad,” and everyone has a unique way of demonstrating his or her talents. Enjoy the variety!

» All members are welcome to join, including moderators. Don’t forget that we’re members, too!

This month we are partnering with a special UESPF community-run event to be held next month. November is the one year anniversary of TES V: Skyrim, and to celebrate some of your forum peers are hosting a special series of events, which you can read about in this thread here. But wouldn’t it be nice if people participating in the Skyversary had something to help promote it and show their participation? That’s where you come in!

Your job is to create a signature image or avatar that members participating can use. You will not only get credit for your work, but it will be featured in everyone’s forum profile!

We ask that all signature images be reasonably sized, no wider than 700 pixels and no taller than 100 pixels. Forum avatars are 135x135 pixels with a 29.30 KiB cap.


Our schedule for the October event is as follows:
October 1 – October 25: Competition begins! Start planning and send in those submissions!
October 26 – October 30: Voting period – vote for your favorites!
October 31: Our winner is announced!
Please note that all times are determined by me, Avron the S’wit, and therefore will run according to GMT -5/Eastern Standard Time. (Click here if you’re unsure when, exactly, that is!)

Remember that the CotM is not possible without you, so please participate, contribute, discuss, and vote!

Those entries are super so far - wow! I especially love Deandra's.

Weasel, I guess everyone can try a signature image and an avatar, since there are more or less two mini competitions in one, but try to do one entry per idea. That way it's fair.

Me too. Wow Weasel, you really have outdone yourself. Actually, all three of the ones so far are outstanding.

Also it is October now for me so Deandra's argument is invalid and her submission completely negates it .

I am ever so slightly embarrassed that my idea was stolen and used. They all look awesome, although have to point out that Musicman is being sexist.

I don't know if there's really any grounds to call it sexist (or racist, for that matter) and I don't think it needs to be 'fixed'. I mean, the human race is often referred to as mankind or the race of 'man' without there being any implicit sexist agenda. Sure some people like to make out that it's further evidence of the subjugation of women, and I would say there probably is some basis to these claims in the now distant history, but in modern society I think one can be excused for utilising such terms. We know there is no intention to offend in Musicman's entry at any rate and perhaps it's best not to delve into such issues as a matter of course.

I'm more concerned Musicman pulled a fast one and changed it without letting us know to be honest

There are actually two contests going on at the same time: an avatar competition and a signature banner competition. You are allowed to submit one of each, but not more than one of each. Does that help?

When we hear the joke, we sigh, roll our eyes, and think "how cliche." But in a nostalgic sense, looking back on the first year of Skyrim's release, you cannot help but love Skyrim's biggest contribution to the internet. Some may disagree, but I think its a good memory to have on Skyrim's first of many birthdays.
