That's probably it..you have to be a few feet away to hit someone with a dagger. It's weird. This game is coded badly, or at least primitively.

I've reloaded by Barbarian save. I'm in Ice Fortress, not Labyrinthian. I'm not dying as much as I remember, but the enemy spawns seem random. If I luck up and gets orcs or ice wolves it's okay, but I got one shotted by a Lich earlier and rage quit.

Too close to use a dagger?

That's... unexpected.

I'll try again stepped back a bit.

So how did that end up working out for ya? I'm still stuck in Ice Fortress for my part. I play until I die every day, which is usually about five minutes.

The total randomness of the enemies that appear is what kills me. I can clear out rooms full of Orcs or Minotaurs. Knights give me trouble. Frost Demons are worse, and if a Lich or Vampire appears they kill me in like a second flat.

Also, Ancestral Ghost's self-installing utility uses the CD version 1.07.

Combined with Bloodbat's DOSBox build using shaders instead of scalers, the text is really smoothed out and looks a whole lot better:

I recently downloaded it off the website, however the install was strange. I don't think it went through all the way, because I never got to the DosBox. Very confusing.

I am also still playing Arena. I put DOSBox on my flash drive so I can play it wherever I am. I mostly play it on my school's computers though.. XD I never beat the main quest, I just like walking around the cities and exploring the never ending wilderness.

Still playing here. I finally got around to starting the main quest a couple weeks ago. Working on getting the fifth piece!

I really miss certain elements of lore that were in Arena that got retconned, such as the Imperial Province only having the one metropolis in it and not having a specific race. Makes a lot more sense to me, as I imagine the "Imperials" to simply be a mix of mostly human races. Now they're boring white people who's specialty is charming people (yawn).

Dude, just because you didn't see them, that doesn't mean they weren't there. Do you really believe that their was only one city? In a whole country/province? And that is exactly what Imperials are. I don't get what you are trying to say.

Don't you recall Cyrodiil's description from Morrowind? "It's mostly endless jungle." It wasn't until TESIV that it was changed.

It's the Imperial Province! The center of an empire originally founded by Nords (or Nedes, whatever, more new lore to make up for the changes.) Hell, when you visit the Imperial Province in Arena, the people there look more like Redguards than anything IIRC.
Prior to TESIV, I assumed that in lore the Imperial City was massive, and there were probably minor settlements scattered all around it. But we were given no reason to think that there were other large cities in the jungles of Cyrodiil.

Of course there are. It's a country-sized province. Even jungled up Elsywere has more then one city.

All I'm saying is I preferred it as a metropolitan province and not yet another race-specific "homeland." Just a matter of opinion!
I do like what they did with the Imperial/Nord relationship in Skyrim though. I guess it was sort of worth the change for that?

I'm playing!
By the way, are there any mods or graphics extenders for this game?

Not that I know of, but you can often tweak DOSBox settings to get mildly smoother graphics.

I am not an expert by any means, but when my game is running choppy I just increase the cycle speed by pressing control-f12

I'm trying to get into it, but it's even more alien to me than Daggerfall. It's quite different from every other TES title.

I understand completely. The important thing is to give the game a fair chance because if you do you will experience an adventure like never before. It is a hard game to get into but it is worth the effort.

I wish I had known about this game when it first came out - my 10-year-old self would have been all over it.
So I'm not still playing, but I intend on attempting to install Arena and Daggerfall sometime soon.
